Once a heart hungers for Jesus above all other hungers, then all those other hungers find their proper place of blessing and holy pleasure in our lives.
Meditation is like reading a story and then having a teacher right there to explain what was meant by the story--the Teacher right beside us, the Holy Spirit.
God made man from soil so He could plant in the soil of our hearts His word. Heart soil is made and shaped for word seed. God shaped the earth with His word; God shaped us with His hand and gave us heart to convert Seed-Word into thriving, Jesus-formed, fruitful life.
A moment or season of solitude has a holy purpose and outcome: to grow an intimate attachment to the love of Christ, allowing ourselves to fill with God’s fullness.
At some point, Jesus will come along and open the door, not of insight but of being with Him, embracing Him and His words. He will open to you the door of being more aware of Him than yourself; you will know Him- this is eternal life.
Home is that place on the road we return to, the place where we are not restless to be somewhere else. There is a home prepared for us on this road to our HOME. Once we do get that eternal HOME, we will no longer be grumbling in restlessness to go back somewhere else.
Christ-like identity is not the result of disembodied 'I am' declarations. Christ like identity embodies Christ's love expressed through the peculiar genius the Holy Spirit has formed in us.
When fidelity to Jesus has fashioned our labor and affectionate love has captured our energy, then maybe, just maybe, the church can become the prophetic voice of hope in the world she is destined to become.
The gospel leader defines leading well as leading a community of people with a common faith to be inwardly formed, not outwardly assembled.
