Internal Medicine, primary care, in a rural clinic. I’ve made mistakes, everyone has. But the right approach always includes kindness. MD,PhD. Centralia, WAJoined June 2020
I was asked if I’d help a local Fire Dept out and do their biannual physicals. Um, help out the folks that help out the folks that need it? Nearly a silly question, when you ask it like that.
Those are my people.
Two days later, finding out the insurance refused to pay for cephalexin for an infection.
It’s not an expensive drug. It IS a critical situation, given he’s diabetic.
I call bullshit.
1. Found out yesterday it’s ok to deposit last week’s paycheck, since the clinic got a loan from Medicare to tide us over. Thanks, Changehealthcare and UHG. 2. Considering I’m making half the average salary for my specialty, “we wish we could pay you for the extra shifts” is …
I don't like all the fighting with the insurance companies, that's my least favorite part of the job. I do it because I like my patients, and someone needs to stand up to the bad guys on their behalf. And yes, they are the bad guys.
I hate it when providers use the term “non-compliant” in charts.
You want to know which patients take their meds? People who understand WHY they’re taking it, and trust their doctor.
If there’s a problem with your patient not taking their meds, it might be you, sunshine.
I just had a patient tell me that her prior doctor told her that the benefit of the metformin he was prescribing was “worth the embarrassment” of fecal incontinence that was occurring in public and at work and I sort of want him to try that out himself before saying that again.
Just remembering that time in the ER when the obnoxious gyne surgeon bellowed across the ER saying he was looking for a 74 yr old woman with vaginal bleeding and one my our delightfully snarky nurses said from behind a curtain “have you tried match.com?”
AITA for writing on a prescription “culture results showed a multi-resistant pathogen. I would be happy to discuss the case with the pharmacist who refused to dispense cipro, and receive their sage advice.”
Insurance company shenanigans: a good friend that lives near Los Angeles had a hematologist/oncologist that practices in Florida, not licensed in California, assigned as her PCP. On the phone, they offered no solution. That's a helluva commute to see your PCP, no?

I haven’t shared the news publicly yet, just with close friends and family. I don’t know what I’ll say when my coworkers ask how my weekend was. “It was great, I signed for my mom’s remains release from the medical examiner for cremation and picked out an urn. Wbu?” 😂
When a thoracic disk herniated ( lifting), my ICU career ended
My identity was so intertwined with my work that I felt hopeless
Now I'm happier but getting there was a long journey
@AkimoriAtom If some snakes are venomous but I can’t tell which ones are which, the smart thing is to assume they are all venomous until proven otherwise.
no seriously because every time I leave therapy I'm just....so....EXHAUSTED. Like I take a nap in my car immediately afterward because facing your demons is so demanding of your body, mind, and soul like OMG
what they don’t tell u about therapy is that you have to constantly address things you have been avoiding your entire life and it’s so much work and mentally draining i can’t believe i pay for this anyways i’ll see you later today deborah
@ciirarref Absurd. You could say the EXACT same for MDs. Some are amazing and have a great bedside manner, and others we all wonder how they got this far.
Has nothing to do with the degree - it’s the variability in people - it’s called life
I cried today. I’m a strong Black man. I adopted my cousin at 4 years old. He been my son since. Today at 18 he got accepted into Howard University. I pray I made my family proud as his Dad and helped him change his life forever. He will be a Bison like me. #HowardLegacy
I tell Weeo sometimes that I like to look at his face because I love him so much and yesterday he was staring at me. Asked why he said “cause I love you mom”
