DAS meets the Moho! New Science Adv paper w/ @ZhongwenZhan. We developed a method for finding Moho reflections in DAS data. One EQ can yield 10s of km of fine-scale Moho depth estimates. We used it on SoCal EQs and learned about the Garlock, Coso, and more doi.org/10.1126/sciadv…

New paper led by Hao Guo! We carefully relocated events in the slab in southern Cascadia and computed their source parameters. Our observations suggest relatively low effective stress in the slab crust and, by extension, the megathrust. Check it out here: doi.org/10.1785/022024…

We just published a preprint! We used a dark fiber to image the Garlock Fault and discovered some peculiar properties of its damage zone and velocity structure. This shows how useful DAS can be for imaging major faults. Link: essopenarchive.org/doi/full/10.22…

New paper out in #GJI with @zross_! We invert for probabilistic estimates of low-dimensional source characteristics for every large strike-slip earthquake of the past three decades. We find several interesting patterns in rupture behavior. Link: academic.oup.com/gji/article/23…

Rupture processes of the two Turkey major events. The M7.8 mainshck first ruptured NE direction for over 100km, then departed from hypocenter to the SW. The M7.6 event ruptured bilaterally, and its last subevent E4 activated a NE-trending subfault. Very complex ruptures.

A hammer strike may not seem like much, but if you swing it 49 times (yes, I did that...) and stack the data, you can see it clearly on our new South Pole DAS array 2 miles away!! We are going to bring out the big hammer (40kg) today and hope to see more!
