@MichaelAArouet Look into their religious/cultural historical differences, particularly the extent to which reformational Protestant ideas held sway in northern Italy vs mafia familial Roman catholic ideas predominating in the south. Culture and economics are downstream from religeous worldview.

@Jonathan_K_Cook Russian spetznatz killed in Donbass, not Ukraine. Putin even gave them awards about 16 months later... the supposed breakaway was provoked by Russian forces.

@c_h_e_m @JollaHQ @nokia The Nokia 808 Pureviee had a huge bulge for its 42 MP Carl Zeiss lense. Sometimes you need depth, because physics doesn't change just 'cause thin is cool. I prefer the best camera on my phone, since its usually only camera I have with me.

@jiri_bsc @JollaHQ @nokia Or /e/ OS, with a French lead dev?

After a long silence in X, @JollaHQ is back. And we're bringing something Europe desperately needs. The Jolla Phone: Europe's independent smartphone running #SailfishOS 5. In 2013, when we founded Jolla from @nokia MeeGo’s ashes, people called us naive. "You can't compete with iOS and Android," they said. They were right about one thing: we weren't trying to compete. We were building an alternative. Today, that alternative matters more than ever. Every Android phone, every iPhone — they all phone home to California. Your data, your habits, your conversations: processed, analyzed, stored on someone else's terms. GDPR promised European digital sovereignty. But what good are data protection laws when your entire digital life runs on American infrastructure? This isn't about nationalism. It's about choice. It's about owning your device instead of renting it. It's about a phone that respects you enough to give you: • Sailfish OS 5 — the only commercially viable European mobile OS • A physical privacy switch (kill camera/mic when you want) • A replaceable battery (remember those?) • Android app compatibility (because we're practical) • No Google Play Services siphoning your data We spent 12 years in the wilderness, keeping Sailfish OS alive through die-hard community support. While the mobile OS graveyard filled with names like Symbian, MeeGo, Firefox OS and Windows Phone — we survived. Now there are only four commercially viable mobile operating systems left in the world and only one is from Europe: • iOS (US) • Android (US) • HarmonyOS (China) • Sailfish OS (Europe) ⭐️ This comeback isn't driven by investors or quarterly targets. It's driven by something simpler: We just love building products that actually deserves to exist. No fake-it-until-you-make-it. Just engineering, iteration, and a belief that Europe needs its own mobile platform. The phone pre-order launches today at jolla.com. 5G, dual-SIM, 12GB RAM, replaceable covers in Snow White, Kaamos Black, and The Orange (yes, THAT orange — nostalgia included). If you believe #Europe should have alternatives to #BigTech, if you're tired of being the product instead of a respected customer, if you remember what it felt like when phones were tools instead of surveillance devices — this is for you. We're not naive. We're just stubborn. Welcome back, Jolla. 🇪🇺 Pre-order: jolla.com/phone #Jolla #SailfishOS #DeGoogle #European #DigitalSovereignty

@LinaSeiche You can never go wrong with Tolkien. Or if you want delightful historical fiction set in pre-WW1 lake district England, "Swallows and Amazons" by Arthur Ransome tell the story of free range kids and their summer sailing & camping adventures.

Economists: three questions. 1. How is volatility dropping if volatility is due to inelastic supply, which hasn’t changed? 2. How far must volatility fall for it to function as money? 3. Why can’t it fall that far?

Shower thought: in my lifetime I’ll have witnessed the very bottom of the deepest bear market in Christianity—250 years in the making—and the beginning of its revival.

@NSmolenski "Where is the Life we have lost in living? Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge? Where is the knowledge we have lost in information? The cycles of Heaven in twenty centuries Bring us farther from God and nearer to the Dust." - from T. S. Eliot, Choruses from "The Rock"

@thetrocro Of course! The economists had their SUBJECTIVE value revolution.

A Danish Navy vessel boarded the Chinese cargo vessel Yi Ping after it was discovered it had destroyed 2 undersea telecom cables in the Baltic Sea. Denmark exercised the right under Art. X of the Submarine Cables Convention. It's been done only once before, by the USA in 1959

@daniepstein_com @visegrad24 Stop playing politics with dollar/euro monetary creation, let money be a neutral independent asset outside nation-state control, and manufacturing will return West as well as spread out. Exporting dollars post 1971 killed the industrial base, as Western goods couldn't compete.

Just had a 2hr history/science lesson with 6-10yos about👇 -William Penn, Quakers, & the founding of Pennsylvania -John Locke's ideas about universal rights which would be the foundation of the American constitution -Newton's 3 laws of gravity -Scientific farming & the necessity of crop rotations The kids' BEGGED to read the history book to me Whatever you think kids' are capable of, they are capable of more, MUCH more♥️

Men do not belong in women’s bathrooms. This should not be controversial, but we are living in a nation that also thinks an unborn baby is worth nothing unless her mother wants her. These insanities are all connected.

Your kid doesn't have a problem sitting still. School just has a problem being interesting. Don't victim blame.

Rather than debating if farmers should pay inheritance tax, we should ask why anyone does. It’s a cruel ‘death tax.’ Everything you own was bought with money already taxed. You should have the freedom to leave your assets to whomever you choose, without government theft.

@MillenFinGal @izakaminska @ErikSTownsend Which part of siezing Crimea, Luhansk, and Donetsk in 2014 was a "peaceful trading caravan"?
