Student affairs sure is losing some good ones lately
@josieahlquist @DrArthurDoctor We need to be doing an in depth analysis around why
@josieahlquist I haven't fully left yet, but I'm walking away from a job after three years to relocate closer to family with my wife. We're trying to choose the life we WANT to live and not the one we have to live. If I find something in higher ed, great, but life is too short to wait.
@josieahlquist I am making almost 3 times what I was working on a college campus, don’t have to be on campus 15 hours a day, have an actual summer vacation, and don’t have to deal with politics.
@josieahlquist Yep, sadly it’s because there’s no sense of value and worth provided by institutions. We’re disposable and we know it, and it’s best for our health to leave. It’s a huge bummer!
@josieahlquist SA pros are expected to be the morale-builders on campus for students and faculty, and even more is demanded of BIPOC & LGBTQ+ SA. It takes a huge toll that I hope people recognize in themselves before it results in irreparable burnout.
@josieahlquist As someone who recently retired but still teaches in our #SAHE program, escalated unrealistic expectation to provide unconditional care, compassion and compliance has been too overwhelming.
@josieahlquist I was just thinking that as well.
@josieahlquist I'm both not surprised at all, and surprised it's taken this long.
@josieahlquist If you’re going to work for an employer that doesn’t care about you, you might as well get compensated financially and have a more consistent schedule that is closer to a 9-5. 🤷🏻♀️ everyone i know that has left is happier.
