How is it a “cash grab” when the funds don’t go to general revenue, get returned to the province that they were collected in, and that 90 percent go back to households in the provinces where the backstop applies (like Ontario), the rest to designated groups like schools?
Hi Dale, after a few million went to schools in 2019/20, no carbon tax money is going back to schools, hospitals, universities or municipalities. 10% was set aside for SMEs & Indigenous groups but almost none of that money has been returned since 2019. Small firms alone are now owed $2.5 billion. The tax has not been revenue neutral for a single year since it was created. CFIB is pushing for the small biz allocation to be returned. canada.ca/en/department-…
Oh that’s easy. In reality Canada is only responsible for 1.6% of Global GHG Emissions. The idea that taxing “carbon emissions fuel” could have an effect on a global issue that we’re only responsible for a sliver of is not only misguided, it’s irresponsible. It’s the analogous equivalent to Canada trying to empty a swimming pool with tablespoon while Eastern Europe, The Middle East, and Asia fill it with a firehose. It’s nothing more than fraud, racketeering, extortion, and conspiracy to commit all three masked as virtue.
@journo_dale It robs truckers and equipment owners of thousands of dollars.
Because the rebates don't account for every extra dollar collected as a consequence of the tax. For example, the GST collected on the carbon tax is all kept by the government and amounts to over half a billion dollars per year according to the PBO. This is a question it should be trivially easy for a journalist to answer. So maybe try doing that next time instead of acting like a sycophant.
@journo_dale @dianneathome Scheer--sharp like a marble.
@journo_dale It's especially rich to hear "it's a cash grab" from the "click here to donate" crowd.
@journo_dale Don’t forget the governments take. The cost of government employee wages is about 12% of the budget. So they collect the money, skim off the top, and then send some of the remainder back. Sign me up for this deal!!!
@journo_dale Besides the fact that CO2 isn't effecting the weather in any measurable way and is a hoax, it cost $200,000,000 for administration.. how can people get back more after taking out half of what they collect?
@journo_dale It's all in the eyes of the beholders. Sad.
@journo_dale Who cares where it goes? How exactly is the tax and the extra 13% on top of it helping Canadians?
