Local News Blues: Five Months In, Five Observations on Press Forward indepthnh.org/2024/02/05/loc… via @nancywestnews
@jpalfrey @nancywestnews Thanks for sharing this. Any reactions?
@dicktofel @nancywestnews Sure, though X is probably not the best format for extended reax. I aspire to read any and all feedback no matter where from. I hear the critique about transparency of course--and have spent the time I can on the road and webinars to share my POV and what we seek to do.
@dicktofel @nancywestnews Next stop is @knightfdn KMF in person. We have been working on guidelines for national pooled funds as well as local funds (e.g. Chicago). We have moved a lot of new money (over $50 million) from @macfound alone in 2023 and will be putting out more than $150 mm in grants and...
@dicktofel @nancywestnews @knightfdn @macfound $25 million in impact investments. That will be all spent within 5 years and I would hope to do more. That is entirely on top of what we will put out in grants in the longstanding Journalism and Media program. If we are successful we will get many others to make new $$ available.
@dicktofel @nancywestnews @knightfdn @macfound And maybe last note for now: I think the local news grants we have made so far are good ones. We will continue to listen to the field as we make more grants--now with an excellent director in place @macfound Silvia Rivera and soon one in Miami for Press Forward national.
@dicktofel @nancywestnews @knightfdn @macfound Oh and P.S. should you @nancywestnews @dicktofel come to Chicago, let me know and I will gladly and personally buy you some "bacon-wrapped-shrimp" (if we have that here in the Midwest)!
