Elon is the worlds wealthiest man, w the ability to pull in software engineers and ad constructs from his other companies. If he would have gotten away with this successfully: you bet other founders would have followed, treating their staff like this. Treat people with respect.

We now have the playbook of how not to acquire a company, even when your goal is to cut costs. Nothing wrong with wanting to cut costs. A little empathy and planning would have gone a long way. And some - dare I say - leadership that motivates people positively?

This is what micromanaging from the top looks like, when the CEO *thinks* they can tell the source of the problem and how to fix it, just by looking at it. It’s incredibly frustrating when it happens to you. It’s rare to see it this public. Good luck to engineers in the weeds.

Many executives fail to understand why tech companies are bloated. They are bloated because everything is held together with duck tape and "task force" teams. And it's due to gross lack of funding when it comes to removing complexity and technical debt.

After 1 week on #Mastodon, the biggest diff I notice is the way each network makes me feel. Twitter: “Why are ppl so horrible to each other?” Mastodon: “There are so many interesting & cool ppl in the world!” It's changing my perspective of social media. #TwitterMigration

Oh, the app update is a lie. This is not done. The team failed to ship by that original one week deadline (and a good part of them got fired, as promised). So now they decided to confuse users as they keep on working long hours and eventually ship. Welcome to the new Twitter.

“So if they built it, why didn’t they ship it?” Old Twitter did things more careful & slow - both to get early feedback, and to not release half-baked features. This will clearly change. For the better in speed of release, and perhaps for worse for of quality, bugs, confusion.

No. This is false. I helped to create two different billion-user projects at Apple: WebKit and iPhone. I was on these teams from the earliest stages and I never once came close to sleeping at the office. It’s not an essential part of doing great work.

What’s nice about Mastodon is that the federation works effortlessly. I happen to have joined an infosec-friendly server *but I don’t care*. By which I mean, I can follow anyone anywhere in the system. This seems to work effortlessly and I’m super-impressed. 3/
