There's a lot that I don't know. There's a lot that I'm still learning. higher ed professional. community organizer.bsky.app/profile/julesi…Joined December 2009
When I see anti-abortion folks posting about Roe v. Wade being overturned, I'm saddened by the fact that they think it's just about abortion. One of the key things (among many) is the legal mechanism that made Roe v. Wade possible and what that means for other types of rights.
Rosa Parks arrest and the subsequent peak of the Civil Rights Movement is a testament that Brown v Board fell short. It took community organizing and the masses creating a new future to move toward more genuine desegregation. Never forget our power as the masses to enforce rights
Our rights in the U.S. have always been precarious. The case of Brown v. Board said that plaintiffs were deprived of equal protection under the 14th, which essentially overturned the precedent of separate but equal.
STATEMENT: Kontra Daya strongly condemns the COMELEC’s refusal to extend voting hours. The poll body has effectively ignored the clamor of voters who had to endure long lines, stressful delays and other inconveniences caused by the inefficiency of COMELEC and Smartmatic.
It seems like a mask optional policy without consideration for these important factors encourages a false notion of normalcy while shifting public health to be an individual decision as though individuals live in vacuums.
A lot of the talk about going mask optional focuses on current metrics. Why aren't we talking about possible new strains that could emerge once everyone goes maskless or talking about how immunocompromised people could be harmed? Or many other things?
Doing 4/5 of what a teacher does right now makes me doubly appreciate the work teachers put in. Despite long hours of planning, grading, and teaching, I don't feel nearly as fatigued as when I was doing 55+ hour weeks in corporate. I'm still tired, but at least I'm happy lol
"Mr. Ignacio, I saw you biking on the way to school!"
There's something about students' excitement for catching their teachers in the wild that makes me laugh 😂

My problems with mindfulness workshops: 1) they never acknowledge the historical roots of mindfulness 2) they never acknowledge systemic issues that inform our struggles 3) mindfulness is a means of placating us, instead of encouraging us to fight for better conditions
After more than 150 years of appointed boards of education in Chicago, the road to the city’s first fully elected representative leadership has come to an end.
Our school district now has the same democratic rights afforded to every other district in the state of Illinois.
The above sentence is an excerpt from current coverage where I substituted "U.S." for "Cuban." We wouldn't back the Capitol attackers, and we shouldn't back the reactionaries leading #SOSCuba
Imagine if U.S. media covered the Capitol attack like they're covering #SOSCuba
What if we described the Capitol attack like this, "U.S. citizens are rising up, frustrated by months of crisis, pandemic restrictions, food shortages, and, most of all, demanding freedom."
There are a lot of articles identifying a "labor shortage" in the U.S., which feels quite misleading. If anything, I would argue it's less about a shortage of labor and more about the proliferation of mass exploitation i.e. capitalism.
Just installed @hellotushy, and it is truly one of the most exciting purchases I've made in my thirties that I wish I made earlier in life. And to top it all off, installed with no hiccups. #adulting
First day of Chicago's opening— Trying to go to a bar and have a drink and the yt bar tender man opens with, "You know you don't need to wear a mask? You can just take it off."
Sorry, I'm just not mentally ready to believe everything is just okay. And that's okay.
Does anyone else hear "cryptocurrency" and say, "Aight, I'm leaving."
I feel like folks have the same thoughts about it, and it's just become petite bourgeois topic of choice.
In our video pronunciation guide, reporters @JaniceYuNews and @FrancesWangTV state the correct pronunciations of the Chinese- and Korean-language names of the victims in the Atlanta spa shootings.
