free idea because id love to see it exist/done well:
deep-dive into sci fi books, movies, media generally that talk about futuristic technologies and assess how right/wrong they were both in abstract ideas/hypotheses + literal implementations

someone told me that was the lump of labor fallacy which shifted my framing on that, there will always be more work, more opportunities. those who use ai are just likely doing more work and finding more opportunities (new kinds of work). hopefully in what they’re interested in and passionate about.
the value we assign to our labor - especially as we witness mass labor-removal in creative processes via new technology - is an emotional bias and disproportionately weighted imo. the resistance we feel to AI today is not a unique phenomenon. (e.g. perhaps the same relative to the proliferation of information the printing press made possible? or how farmers felt at the dawn of the industrial revolution?)
ai in art / writing? i have a degree in journalism / philosophy and i will always love the process of the work, too. but much of what i see as “labor” must shift upstream because i concurrently recognizing that my own resistance is a very human nostalgia bias which future generations will not have and is not useful as a foundational principle of what makes something valuable . (-as every generation before us :))
that would be dogma.
@LocasaleLab What you’re describing is good writing, period. What your students are unlearning is bad writing. My students unlearn bad writing as well — in the humanities. This is not a humanities problem.
storytelling is the ultimate compression algorithm for human attention. everything else, data, logic, tech feeds into it, but if you can’t wrap it in a compelling narrative, nobody will give a shit. people think they make decisions based on facts, but they’re mostly responding to the shape of a story, whether it’s a personal arc, a company vision, or a product pitch.
if you want to accomplish anything meaningful, the story is the interface between it & the world. get that wrong & nobody will give af. get it right & you bend steel with your bare hands.
