@THECOOLISSUE His reputation was tarnished amongst the women he deemed worthy of marrying after mistreating his first wife and Natasha. He settled for Carrie because he needed a caregiver and he was still ashamed of her.
@kaka1nea well said and honestly there was nothing that could be done...even if his vanity made him drawn to these "ideal" women, his weak character gave him no other choice but to settle for carrie–and this was the point of attraction between both of them: they were both settling
