The New York Times called the Premier League the world's richest sports league in a story today on Luton. The data doesn't back that up. Total team revenue for most recent seasons: 🏈 NFL: $18.7B ⚾️ MLB: $11.8B 🏀 NBA: $10.9B ⚽️ EPL: $7.5B 🏒 NHL: $6.8B
@kbadenhausen “Richest” is an interesting adjective. Certainly revenue is a dumb metric. Maybe net income, income per team. Richest owners? Club value worth the most? And remember only 20 teams in the EPL
@kbadenhausen Soccer Ultras on their way over to Sportico World Headquarters for a word...#goodluckkurt
@kbadenhausen Would be curious to see chart over last decade and see trend lines
@kbadenhausen Those aren't sports leagues they are non-competitive cooperatives
@kbadenhausen That's called Propaganda Press. Get ready for a lot of news like this. FIFA is determined to position its sport in the USA market and for that it will use a lot of PAYOLA, Paid Propaganda passing it off as news.
@kbadenhausen I believe the IPL (Indian cricket) is also "richer" though their revenue estimates seem to vary
