CPS3 screenshots drive me crazy when they aren't adjusted for the dot clock. The final image that's output is ~71.4% the width of the original array dots drawn if displayed as squares. That 85% of the full width, as you can see in the image below inside of a 4:3 window. Interestingly enough, I was reading some old Wells Gardner service manuals that said the monitor was at best going to do 640x400 in hires mode. That puts vertical deflection around 83% of 480 lines. The CRT having about 2% tolerance size regulation. That would make a lot of sense to me... the CPS3 hardware seems to be designed to draw a very detailed image inside of a window approximating 85% of the full 640x480/320x240 4:3 area... accommodating for the CRTs available at the time.
@khmr33 Do you know why they did this? what was Capcom trying to achieve?
@khmr33 but the displays are 4:3 and they’re designed to fill them… it’s just non-square pixels. excuse me if i’m wrong, but the first image is more accurate to what you would see on a cabinet because of this (have ran cps3 emulation at 240p120 on a pc crt as well)
@khmr33 yeah but 4:3 looks right even when it isn't lol
@khmr33 This explains why her legs are so big 🙈
@khmr33 We need SF 3rd Strike Remake. Pixel Perfect no 3D sht.
@khmr33 non-square pixels were not fun
