@JillianDURM Hey Jillian, An 800 sq.ft Durham home costs $120K to build at $150’per sq.ft. A 1200 sq.ft one costs $60K more. On Rental Beast the median price of an 800 sq.ft Durham rental costs 44% less than a median priced 1200 sq ft. So I guess SCAD is all about affordability, huh?

@Breck_Maynokur @maryhelenmoore Not true at all. Nothing is decided except to distill it down to readable sections and review then with both the proponents and those with issues participating. So far it's been all the developers with special access.

@maryhelenmoore @Breck_Maynokur Correct. CC will most likely hold a one issue public hearing on it as it's so complex. INC spent 24+ hrs reviewing. Some of it is indecipherable as to meaning.

@DurmBull @Breck_Maynokur and your church may still be able to do that. Nothing was decided. CC gave themselves some time to digest all of it. There have been multiple versions which makes it confusing.

@Breck_Maynokur @pa_tall It's being broken up into workable sections for review as it's too complicated for even the proponent to understand. They hired someone else to write a lot of it.

@Breck_Maynokur @pa_tall Hi The INC did 24 hours of review of the largest ever text amendment proposal in Durham's history. There are some good things in it and some not as good especially for those that live in its most vulnerable neighborhoods.

@Progress_NC A key issue is that it expires after 2 years. How are states going to cover it going forward with all the other initiatives needed due to the pandemic and solving housing etc. it’s a very worthwhile program but states need a plan for when the fed stops paying.

@Chri7er @JillianDURM In almost all of the new build communities Council has approved (over 900 new homes in the Brier Creek area alone in the past few months!) each developer has included tens of thousands in funds for affordable housing.

@RealEricCarmen Hi Eric. Hope all is well. I moved to Durham, NC last year to escape the cold and taxes. I hear others are doing somewhat the same....

@RealEricCarmen Just found this chain. Media reporting today is all about opinions and usually from talking heads not real journalists. All about ratings even though CNN and MSNBC have awful numbers. Not to sound too much like an old guy but I miss Walter Chronkite who reported the facts.

Last year, like thousands of other North-Easterners, my wife, Beth, and I moved to Raleigh/Durham for the tremendous lifestyle it offers. Now that we’re situated, real estate work is my next adventure at Keller Williams Raleigh.
