SAFe violates basic agile principles: it's not simple, it's not flexible, it elevates process over people, it relies on plans, it discourages self organization and autonomy. It would be fine if they called it SFe

It's a basic Lean principle that you need to build about 30% slack time into the work to get maximum throughput. Working at 100% capacity is a guaranteed failure. You can use that slack time for learning, e.g. a daily learning hour or one day a week for individual projects.

It looks as though Meaningful Vote lll comes back from the dead on Friday. That is what cabinet expects. Goodness knows if PM gets her deal across line then. Looks challenging, to put it mildly. But I feel so emotionally bludgeoned by all this I cannot bring myself to forecast

It’s funny, software developers often won’t listen to architects in their own organisations who haven’t written code for N years, yet they *will* listen to speakers at conferences who haven’t built or run real software systems for N years.

You can do Scrum until you're blue, but if you're fighting your code to make small changes, agility is impossible. Fix that first. Bad code costs real money and adds real delay. The cost of that delay often easily exceeds the cost of a rewrite.
