I have an old 386 motherboard, according to the datecodes it was made in 1991. Interesting thing about this board is a battery, it never been replaced and it still not leaked. Furtermore it even still can keep charge for a while. How is it possible and is it legal at all?
@krikzz What sort of a battery is it anyway, Li primary or a NiCd rechargeable?
@krikzz You'd be surprised how long some batteries can last (it's why many old cartridges still can keep their saves even though their batteries should have died long ago) It may be worth backing up the CMOS memory now so you can restore it if the battery ever dies for good.
@krikzz I suspect that the battery is made of small sealed cells when the others are single barrel
@krikzz How long do you think old electronics like this can last for? I watched Bil Herd say they are only engineered to last for 3-5 years. I sometimes wonder how my childhood MegaDrive and Snes still work.
