There hasn't been a consultation with any of the brokers to the best of my knowledge yet. SEBI always consults the industry players before big regulatory changes. All this reporting based on "sources" without basic verification is not good journalism.

SEBI’s own data shows ~40% of futures traders actually make money. But with STT so high, the first 7 points on Nifty futures just go to charges. If Govt & SEBI really want to cut retail losses, removing STT will do far more than killing weekly expiry.

Anything that grows so powerful that it becomes unquestionable is bound to create problems sooner or later. SEBI is a prime example. they act as they want, without listening to a single stakeholder, whether it’s exchanges, brokers, or traders.
