I’m not an Effective Altruist, but the more EA criticisms I hear, the more sympathetic I become. Most of the criticisms amount to (a) shallow attacks on consequentialism or (b) implementation complaints.
@kvallier "Implementation" issues explain most tragedies.
@kvallier Reality is an implementation constraint. Consequences matter - the road to hell is paved with good intentions. EA has pretenses to being more than it is. EA is just warmed-over Christian ethics for atheists. They'd be better off going to church and starting from the basics.
Michael Lewis' Going Infinite is the best thing I've read on how EA in practice ends up devolving into dangerous absurdity because it assumes that human beings can be made into cost-benefit automatons. And these aren't criticisms, it's just Michael Lewis describing how EAs actually live
@kvallier The best EA ever to play the game
@kvallier EA is (generally) ok. Longtermism ruins it.
@kvallier Spend in the way of Allah. Islamic Accelerationism (i/acc)
