This past week in medical school I’ve been thinking a lot my cohort. I wish as a whole we would stop taking everything we are told as pure fact. Ask questions, be curious, and form your own opinions. Especially when it comes to mainstream ideas.

One of the most difficult things for me to get as a premed was shadowing experience. To solve this I became a CNA and worked at a hospital. This accomplished two things at once. I gained patient exposure hours and it opened the door to shadowing.

One of the most important things to do but often the most difficult thing to accomplish when applying to medical school is not comparing yourself to others. Not much good comes from comparing yourself to someone else.

Volunteering is a big part of the medical school application. When choosing between a humanitarian trip to another country or volunteering in a shelter 2 times a month for 2 years, choose the shelter. Longitudinal commitment is much more impressive than one time events.
