@rustybrick For a local owner, a good nudge to check who's verified on your Search Console property. A former agency or freelancer can keep access after the work ends. Make sure you're an owner yourself, and remove anyone you no longer work with.
@sengineland Agreed. If the profile is right and the AI Overview isn't, screenshot the answer with the date and the exact search, then check again in a week. Editing a correct profile to match a wrong answer just leaves you with two wrong answers.
@sengineland For a local service business, start with the one you can read today: your Google reviews. Note which services and towns customers mention. If the jobs you want more of never come up, make a point of asking every customer from those jobs.
@glenngabe For a local business, this usually starts with a pitch for a new name or a rebuild. Before you agree, ask two things: will every old page redirect to its matching new page, and who updates the website link on your Google Business Profile the day it switches?
How many shops in your trade and city already have 100 or more Google reviews?
The free cost calculator shows that count and what local marketing would cost you.

@glenngabe A question for anyone selling AI search to a local owner: what will you change that I can see, and which calls will you report each month? If the plan is a network of sites posing as independent sources, Anthropic's usage policy, effective Nov 12, bans using Claude for that.
@lilyraynyc For a local business, that's the case for checking both. Ask Google and ChatGPT who you'd call for your trade in your city, like a plumber in Melbourne, and see whether you're named. A customer near you could be asking either one.
@glenngabe For a local business owner asking that, I'd judge a tool by what it tracks. Your trade plus your town, checked against your phone log, is worth paying for. A report on hundreds of keywords nobody calls from is just an expense.
@sengineland Search your business name plus your city, and check the phone number, hours and service area the AI Overview gives. Those are what a caller acts on. If one is wrong, compare it with your Google Business Profile and fix the profile first, since that's the part you control.
Update: the Isaias emergency now covers 30 Florida counties, not 27. Executive Order 26-212, signed Oct 10, added Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas.

Update: the Isaias emergency now covers 27 Florida counties, not 25. Executive Order 26-211 added Citrus and Levy. The price gouging rules and the business tax receipt rule above apply there too.

25 North Florida counties are under a state of emergency for Isaias. That switches on Florida's price gouging law there, services included. I'd tell owners: selling without a local business tax receipt is now a misdemeanor.

A typical top-ranked Tampa roofer has 176 Google reviews. A plumber has 905. Hurricane season runs to November 30.

Google says a logging error kept Search Console from "accurately reporting impressions from May 13, 2025 until April 27, 2026."
CTR and average position too. Not clicks.
If your SEO report leads with those, I'd ask one thing: where are the calls?

Snowbird season runs Nov–Apr on the Space Coast. Proof: a local SEO case study reached Google position 3.6 and 261 organic clicks in two months. Get your listing ready. Request your free AI visibility check.
@glenngabe Worth a local test: point Gemini's Map tool at the neighborhood you serve and ask who to call for your trade there, like a roofer in Titusville. Note whether you're named and what Gemini says about you. A customer nearby could be asking the same question.
@rustybrick If your monthly SEO report pulls from Search Console, ask what dates it covers before you read it this week. Calls are counted somewhere else: the performance report in your Google Business Profile, and your own phone log. Those are the numbers to check first.
Florida's AG is investigating spam texts from "supposed tree service companies." Report them at myfloridalegal.com, the AG says.
Texts keep coming 15+ days after you reply STOP? State law may let you sue for $500 a violation, up to 3x if willful.

@sengineland For local businesses, the bigger domain question is who owns it. Whatever name you buy, register it in your own name and keep the login. If an agency holds the domain, leaving them can cost you the address on your trucks and cards.
@CyrusShepard For a local service business, the phone is still the cleanest signal. Put a tracked number on your website, keep the call count from your Google Business Profile performance report next to it, and ask every caller how they found you. Write the answer down.
@lilyraynyc For local owners, worth checking today: search your trade, your city and a question your customers ask, like what a water heater costs in Tampa. Note whether an AI Overview shows up and which businesses or sites it names. That's the list you're competing with now.
