Why should we be proud that a public utility made record profits? That money comes from us! I'd rather see it in people's pockets, lower bills, better services and better infrastructure. We wouldn't measure a hospital"s success by how much profit it makes from patients, or a fire department by how much it earns from emergencies. The public shouldn't exist to serve the utility. The utility exists to serve the public.

Notwithstanding the blatant illegal efforts by @bankofmaldives to sideline the FX laws and regulations (where is @MMA_Maldives ? ), following a continued inability by President Muizzu’s administration to secure a steady supply of foreign currency, and the worsening access to USD for citizens, BML has officially entered the black market for USD. Rather than correcting any deficiencies through official channels, or improving the state’s balances, BML has now been pushed into purchasing USD outside of the legally defined rate. Whatever pretenses of “investment” they are claiming, this is undeniably the formalization of a black market rate for USD without the approval of MMA. This follows increasingly tighter, obscure controls on how much Maldivians can spend in foreign markets, and is clear indication of the severity of the government’s ineptitude. Forcing BML into illegally buying dollars cannot be the solution to our problem of dollar access. And all of this is because the administration has no fix to offer despite the false promises. The foreign currency of the private sector and SOEs were diverted to "repay" the debt, the government called it a victory, and left us scrambling for dollars. The dollar sukuk the Bank is chasing might not materialise anytime soon, and there are no real plans to overcome this FX crunch. There is no quick fix, and no amount of window-dressing can hide the reality forever. You can only fix the economy with sound long-term policy and good governance.

Where do we get USD funds from? The black market at MVR 20 = USD 1?

Bank of Maldives @bankofmaldives

@Saym3s You may use your USD funds to complete this payment, or alternatively reattempt the transaction using your MVR card within the available daily budget. To allow us to review the transaction further, please send us a DM with your ID card number, and we’ll be happy to assist.

As promised by President Dr. Muizzu, the USD spending limit on BML debit cards has been raised to $500 up from the $250. A major win for the common Maldivians. 😊

My understanding is that it was supported by PNC then. PNC didn’t question the legality of allocation of land, Were any objections raised by PNC in 2023? Please be kind enough to explain. Is the present administration not doing the same thing right now?

Alhamdulillah. He has been found. 🤲 A sincere thank you to @PoliceMv and @ADKHospital ambulance service for your help in finding him and bringing him to safety. We truly appreciate it. We have now brought him back to @IGMHmv. He remains under your care until he departs abroad for proper treatment. We are trusting you again. Please do not fail him this time. Your own doctors and nurses are begging you for better resources. They are doing their best with what little they have. Mental health patients are human too. They deserve proper care. Do better. #MaldivesMentalHealth #IGMH

We will be submitting this case to the Employment Tribunal. @stoplc does not have the power or right to decide when someone has breached a court order. Freedom of speech and right to work are both fundamental human rights.

MENTALLY ILL PATIENT FLEES IGMH SECURED WARD My brother has bipolar disorder and has been admitted at IGMH for over three weeks. Three weeks. And they could not stabilize him because the medication was simply not available. The doctors and nurses were helpful. They did what they could. But what can even the most dedicated staff do when the medication does not exist in this country? We personally sourced and brought that medication from abroad at the hospital's own request. We did everything asked of us. The state did nothing. He went days without sleep. Days. Staff watched him roam outside his room in a LOCKED secured ward for over 3 hours and did absolutely nothing. No intervention. No alarm. Nothing. We were already in the process of arranging to take him abroad for proper treatment because we had lost faith in what was available here. Until that could happen, IGMH had one responsibility. One. To keep him safe and stable under their care. They failed even that. He has now fled the facility and is missing. This is not just a hospital failure. This is a failure of the entire health sector and a failure of this government. A vulnerable patient in a secured mental health ward walked out and no one stopped him. The state must be held accountable. #IGMH #MaldivesHealthcare #MaldivesGovernment

Jailing of journalists is the first in our democratic era. The gag order that put them there is also a first. And today’s blackout by every major newsroom in the country is the first such protest. @MMuizzu is making history for all the wrong reasons. #NoosverikanJalah
