While most of the reporting has centered on what's been removed or challenged, a reminder that WHEN districts FOLLOW their book committee policies, MANY times, books stay on the shelves for kids. Advocating for your district to follow their policies is vitally important.

PSA- They can’t remove a book from a school Library shelf and claim that it’s not banned because it’s still available online, at a bookstore, at the public library. Many students cannot access any of these options. Inaccessibility is banning. And they know it.📚🛑

Irresponsible to imply to kids that books are dangerous or forbidden. This is all completely out of control. Only we as educators and parents can change it. Get involved.

To those districts changing policies to placate small groups, please understand these attacks are politically motivated. Anything that you do will "never be enough" because what they are after is to win an election and to sow distrust. Caving into censorship will not stop them.

We are seeing an alarming increase in internal censorship by school districts around Texas. Librarians are being asked to commit educational malpractice and restrict access. Reminder, districts CAN choose to employ best practices and not succumb to censorship efforts. 1/2

Vouchers are racist. They offset the private education of more affluent white kids in expensive private schools they already attend… …while trapping poorer kids of color in substandard voucher schools that promise big but don’t deliver. Re-segregation. At taxpayer expense.
