It’s ridiculous how people who clearly haven’t been paying attention to the Harry and Meghan saga form opinions based solely on carefully curated optics rather than the bigger picture. Sunny Hostin of The View claiming the Sussexes received a “warm welcome” in Nottingham is laughable. A crowd of children, a handful of Sussex Squad terrorists and a swarm of press photographers hardly constitute overwhelming public support. And let’s not confuse a carefully orchestrated photo opportunity with genuine public enthusiasm. A few smiling faces do not represent the British public. Optics are one thing. Reality is quite another.

Meghan Markle announced to the world that she was returning to the UK for work, supposedly with plans to revive her acting career. Yet look at the number of high-profile events that have taken place in the UK since then, and she has been nowhere to be seen. Not at London Fashion Week, not at the star-studded film premieres, not at the British Museum Ball, not even at the Albie Awards. For someone desperate to establish herself in the American celebrity and fashion circles, surely this is a little embarrassing. Not being invited to every event is understandable. But not even London Fashion Week when you want to be taken seriously as a fashion icon? Ouch. And then there are the “friends.” Meghan invited George and Amal Clooney to her wedding, and they reportedly even offered the Sussexes their private jet. Yet when the Clooneys hosted the Albie Awards, attended by some of the biggest names in entertainment, Meghan and Harry were nowhere to be found. Serena Williams, Meghan’s very own “friend,” was there too. Surely this was exactly the kind of room Meghan would have wanted to be in. 👀 The same goes for the British Museum Ball. After practically throwing herself at Anna Wintour at last year’s Balenciaga show, you would think Meghan might have found her way onto that guest list. Apparently not. And while the film industry keeps rolling out red carpets, Meghan’s name is more likely to appear in stories about Netflix allegedly using her than in connection with an actual acting project. Thank goodness for those ever-helpful media “friends” keeping her name in the headlines. The joke really does write itself. For all the talk of Meghan’s powerful connections and celebrity “friends,” the guest lists seem to be telling a very different story. All that name-dropping, all those media briefings, and yet when the doors open to the rooms she supposedly belongs in, she’s nowhere to be found. And it is not just Hollywood or high society. There has been no family reunion either, not with Harry’s family and certainly not with Meghan’s own father. When you have managed to estrange yourself from both sides of the family, at some point you have to wonder whether the problem might not be everyone else. Perhaps Meghan has more friends in the media than she does in real life. 😂 Soho House seems to be the Sussexes’ only social refuge, because the celebrity circles they supposedly belong to seem perfectly content to carry on without them. And the irony? Meghan announced her return to the UK for work, but the events, the invitations and the industry opportunities that might have made that return look convincing have been conspicuously absent. Her “friends” can keep briefing the press, but headlines are not relationships, and publicity is not a career. It is a rather lonely position to put yourself in, and entirely self-inflicted. If this is what the comeback looks like, I suspect things could get a lot more uncomfortable from here. Tick-tock 🕰️

HARRY & MEGHAN: ROYAL WHEN IT SUITS THEM, PRIVATE WHEN IT DOESN’T. Tom Sykes’ latest article exposes what I believe is the Sussexes’ continuing attempt to have their cake and eat it too. Yes, Harry is a member of the Royal Family by birth. Nobody is disputing that. But he appears to be using that fact as a convenient loophole to justify continuing to trade on his royal identity while claiming he isn’t representing the Crown. No one is buying that. We’re supposed to believe that Harry and Meghan HATE being perceived as working royals? Give me a break. Especially Meghan. Their Nottingham appearances looked very similar to official royal engagements. That distinction between being royal and representing royalty is exactly what HMTLQ sought to protect through the Sandringham agreement. Now we’re hearing that the Sussexes reject KCIII’s recent clarification of their status as private citizens with commercial and charitable interests. How ballsy and convenient. That rejection has everything to do with preserving the commercial value of their royal connection. The titles, the prestige, the recognition and the opportunities that come with them. Without that, they have nothing. They are talentless and most importantly heavily disliked and very unpopular. Sykes also draws a parallel with the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and I find another detail impossible to overlook. The Duke of Windsor’s Nazi sympathies are historically documented. And who could forget Harry being photographed in 2005 wearing a Nazi uniform with a swastika armband? Hmmmm No, the circumstances aren’t identical, but the historical irony is difficult to ignore. Sykes also mentions Sir Clive Alderton. I’ve questioned his July departure announcement before and I remain unconvinced that retirement is the reason for his decision. Sykes previously reported that Alderton opposed Harry’s reintegration into royal life. I strongly believe his disagreement with the King’s willingness to welcome Harry and Meghan back has played a role in his decision to leave. HMTLQ understood why there could be no half-in, half-out arrangement. Her decision protected the integrity of the monarchy. Charles now faces that same challenge, but I don’t see him using a firm hand. Being the King’s son does not give Harry the authority to represent the King. And being born royal should not provide an unlimited commercial license to exploit the Crown’s identity and that is exactly what they have been doing all along. When will the King impose strong boundaries? Tick Tok.

Yes indeed. Meghan is a clinical sociopath. She burned bridges with all her friends and family, everyone from her past, then *induced Harry to do the same expulsion of all his friends and family*. Her father: hasn't spoken to her since her wedding week, never met her kids. Her half-sister sued and lost, her half-brother writes open letters. Her first husband: gone within two years and never said a word, which tells you something too. Her childhood best friend, maid of honour at the first wedding, went public in 2017 to say she didn't recognise her anymore. Jessica Mulroney, the Canadian best friend who did the wedding, cut off in 2020. Two personal assistants out of Kensington Palace within a year, and a formal bullying complaint from her own comms chief. The Palace ran a review and never published it. The Queen's household got 'recollections may vary.' Philip got Oprah while he was in hospital. The brother in law got 'arch nemesis.' Spotify's man called them grifters. UTA's boss said not a great talent. Ari Emanuel said he was done after one phone call. Netflix walked from the partnership. And this week Roland Mouret, who dressed her for a decade, says she dropped him over one admin error and then wore a cheap copy of his dress to make the point. Different people. Different countries. Different decades. Family, friends, staff, bosses, in-laws, designers, agents. One name in every story. And in every story, by her account, she was the one wronged. Not once has she said 'that was me.' Not once. If you want to see the real face, it's in her own Netflix series. The moment she's told that Jason Knauf, her own comms man, has handed the Court of Appeal emails showing she did brief the authors of that book, after she'd told the High Court she hadn't. Watch her reaction. Not shame. Rage. Betrayal. How dare he. She then apologised to the court for 'forgetting.' The series shows the anger. It leaves out the apology. That's the whole playbook in one scene. Get caught, get furious, make it about the person who caught you, keep the cameras rolling. When one person falls out with you, it's them. When everyone does, it isn't.
