80 million Americans decided not to vote in 2020 when it was the easiest to vote in history. People could get registered w/ease, had weeks to vote by mail, voter ID basically waived. It was a big election year. Maybe there's a more fundamental trust issue that makes turnout low.
@lhfang Your vote is basically meaningless. It’s just a way to legitimize a corrupt system.
@lhfang Or maybe voters just see that neither party will do anything for them.
@lhfang the fact that they have the option to vote is much more important than whether or not they actually do
@lhfang Why is it considered a "trust issue"? Some people just don't vote because they really don't care.
@lhfang Many of us would never entrust a Trump or a Biden with anything important, but we all knew we would get one or the other. I’m sure many don’t vote because it feels like a waste of time.
@lhfang Why bother is the overwhelming reason, a common narrative even within this thread, suggesting there really is no difference between parties, they are all controlled by the oligarchy and their media. Very real differences get lost in this dangerous simplicity.
@lhfang Yes, the trust issue is called "the two party system"
@lhfang Why should anyone vote when the "choices" are corrupt and are bought and paid for by big business & MIC? I think the 80 million that didn't vote in 2020 were the smart ones. Anyone of them would probably made a better president than what we have now.
@lhfang @PatrickLeijon I’ve become disillusioned. I’ve started to understand why some people don’t vote.
