The LIFE PST SORT project is reaching its final stage in October 2021. The main objective of the project has been the recovery of recyclable materials contained in the reject fraction of end-of-life vehicles (fluff) and industrial waste, using PICVISA optical sorting equipment.

The energy recovery of the rejects from the LIFE PST SORT demonstration plant has been studied, after the recovery stages of recyclables contained in the streams issued from rejects of ELV treatment plants and from rejects of recycling plants.

What results do we obtain from the highly automated processes of the LIFE PST SORT project? ⚙️ Recoveries of 83% of RDF (SRF) from ELVs, with a calorific value above 20 MJ/kg (greater than 4,500 kcal/kg). Don't miss the following publications to find out more about it!

While windshield glass from ELVs is recovered manually at dismantling stages, glass makes up between 2% and 7% of the weight of shredded end-of-life vehicles. ➖ In Europe, the recovery of this shredded glass is almost non-existent and most of it is landfilled.

🚗 📍 Potential customers benefiting from the LIFE PST SORT solution is mainly recyclers and post-shredding treatment operators of ELVs, as well as waste management companies.

⚙️ The LIFE PST SORT technology provides a solution for the recovery of shredded flat glass, free of the plastic interlayer, with an estimated recovery rate of around 82%, reaching up to 99% purity.
