#WATCH | Delhi | Praveer Ranjan, Director General (DG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), says, "Over the past two years, the CISF has delivered an outstanding performance. Our athletes have represented the Indian team across various sporting competitions, both at the national and international levels...Our other teams have excelled; in the All-India Police Games, they have secured numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals. In total, our personnel have won approximately 180 medals across recent competitions. This serves as proof that the policy decisions we implemented—aligned with the Government of India’s initiative to promote sports within the CAPFs (Central Armed Police Forces)—have been highly effective. We organized sports teams and initiated new recruitment drives; last year, we recruited around 300 individuals who have now completed their training at Deoli. Our athletes are performing exceptionally well across a wide range of disciplines, including wrestling, judo, weightlifting, and boxing. Furthermore, our handball team won the gold medal—marking their second consecutive gold-medal victory. In short, our athletes are performing remarkably well across all types of sporting competitions. We have also won a large number of medals in swimming this time. Over the past few days, we took several key decisions: we improved the athletes' diets and made provisions to ensure they receive high-quality nutrition, for which the necessary budget was allocated. They have been provided with excellent sports kits and access to high-quality training arenas, where they can train under the guidance of SAI (Sports Authority of India) coaches and prepare for competitive events. We are already seeing the positive impact of these initiatives; for instance, many of our athletes have recently won medals at the international level. We are confident that our athletes will perform exceptionally well in the upcoming Olympics, as well as in the International Police Games, which are set to be held in Ahmedabad, India. We have already begun our preparations, and our mission is to ensure that as many of our athletes as possible are able to represent India at the 2036 Olympics—for which India is currently preparing a bid" (22.10)

Five armed terrorists drove into India's Parliament. The first person to raise the alarm was a woman constable who had no gun, only a walkie talkie. Her name was Kamlesh Kumari Yadav, a CRPF constable from Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh. She joined the CRPF in 1994. In July 2001 she was posted to the women's battalion guarding Parliament. At that time women constables at Parliament were not given weapons. On 13 December 2001 she was on duty at Iron Gate No. 1. Around 11.50 am a white Ambassador with a red beacon and Home Ministry markings came in from Vijay Chowk. It did not slow down at the gate. Kamlesh walked towards the car and knew something was wrong. Five armed men got out. She ran back to seal the gate, shouting and raising the alarm on her walkie talkie. Her shouts alerted the security forces and the terrorists. She ran towards Constable Sukhwinder Singh at Gate No. 11. The terrorists opened fire on her. Eleven bullets hit her. She was the first person killed in the Parliament attack. Her alarm gave the other guards time to take position. Not one terrorist got inside the building. She left behind her husband Avdhesh and two daughters, Jyoti and Shweta. In 2002 she was awarded the Ashok Chakra after her death, the first policewoman to receive it.

An unarmed army doctor charged at a suicide bomber in Kabul and held on to him until the vest exploded. His name was Major Laishram Jyotin Singh, from Bishnupur in Manipur, a doctor in the Army Medical Corps. In February 2010 he was sent to Kabul to work with an Indian medical team. He had been there 13 days. On 26 February 2010, around 6.30 am, suicide bombers attacked the guarded compound where the Indian officers were staying. A car bomb killed three guards at the gate. A terrorist entered the compound, fired into the rooms and threw grenades. Five unarmed officers were hiding in one room. A grenade hit it. The fire spread to a bathroom where five more were hiding. Jyotin crawled out of the debris of his own room when he heard them shouting. With bare hands, he charged at the armed terrorist and pinned him down. He held him until the terrorist set off his suicide vest. Both died. Jyotin was 37. The Ministry of Defence said his sacrifice saved 10 of his colleagues. On 26 January 2011 he was awarded the Ashok Chakra, India's highest peacetime gallantry award.

VIDEO | Hyderabad, Telangana: Air Chief Marshal AP Singh undertakes final sortie with his former instructor, retired Wing Commander V S Kochar, at the Air Force Academy in Dundigal. Singh says, "It was really a dream come true. I started my journey with the same aircraft. I think I must be the only Chief who is retiring while the basic aircraft he flew is still serving. I am very grateful to my instructor, Wing Commander Kochar, who taught me flying in the beginning at this very place. I just wanted the circle to be complete. I did my first sortie on January 28, 1984, at this very place with him in a Kiran aircraft, and today, I did my last sortie in uniform with him in the same Kiran aircraft." Retired Wing Commander V S Kochar says, "He was the brightest pupil ever. My dream has also come true to get one more trip. I am 73 now, so getting another trip with him is special.
