I've been thinking for a long time whether I should publish this for you. Now it is hard for me to describe this post in words. I will just leave it here to share with you the pain of my country. The war that Russia started.
Generations of American patriots, from our revolution onward, have fought for the principles Zelenskyy is risking his life to defend. But today, Donald Trump and JD Vance attacked Zelenskyy and pressured him to surrender the freedom of his people to the KGB war criminal who invaded Ukraine. History will remember this day— when an American President and Vice President abandoned all we stand for.
Asking Hamas to step down is a Palestinian necessity. No Arab country, no international body, and no real effort to rebuild Gaza will happen while Hamas remains in power.
The pro-Palestine movement must stop avoiding this truth.
I am at Auschwitz, 80 years to the date after the Soviets liberated this death camp from the Nazis. I don’t have words. Imagine a factory for murdering people.
I remember the 3,000 Americans whom Al-Qaeda slaughtered on 9-11. We still have not truly recovered as a nation.
Imagine being here at this horrid place, where Germans murdered 6,000 (!!) human beings (mostly Jews) a day. Every day. That’s TWO 9-11’s a day (!!), every day, for years — until the number reached 1.1M murdered here.
Mass, industrial murder. It’s inconceivable. I think every human being who can should make a pilgrimage to this place.
This is what I have learned here. Ideas matter. Words have consequences. Hate is nothing to play with. Scapegoating groups is nothing to play with. Nazi salutes are nothing to play with.
Hate and blame can get out of control— just like the fires in LA — and burn down the whole world.
On this Holocaust Memorial Day I hope people will look into the Holocaust, learn, understand. The Holocaust did not begin with gas chambers. It began with normalized dehumanizing of Jewish people. It began with conspiracy theories. It began with attacks on Jewish businesses, schools, and people. It began with Jews hiding their identities out of fear. Does any of that sound familiar?

The "pro-Palestine" movement's role in prolonging the war on Gaza: Though many are angry with Secretary Blinken’s responses during his interview with the New York Times about Gaza, some of the points he shared are absolutely salient and accurate. I have said this time and again and received immense backlash for doing so: Hamas’s war strategy, statements, behavior, and goals regularly shift and oscillate based on international public opinion, the actions of the “pro-Palestine” solidarity movement, and political statements by world governments, leaders, and institutions against Israel’s war. To be clear, I’m not in any capacity saying I endorse the horrendous war that Israel’s been waging on Gaza, killing a large number of civilians (including my family) and failing to achieve strategic and lasting results 15 months later.
However, Hamas refused to engage in pragmatic negotiations to end the war it started, pulled back several times from closing a ceasefire/hostage deal, and thought that mass civilian casualties would delegitimize Israel and force it to end the war. Many are uncomfortable with Secretary Blinken’s remarks because he shed light on the reality that “pro-Palestine” rhetoric and pressure on Israel has inevitably or perhaps indirectly resulted in a strengthening of Hamas’s position and the overall worsening of the situation for Palestinians in Gaza.
I have said time and again that even if folks wanted to attack and criticize Israeli actions, they should call upon the Islamist group to release hostages and negotiate and off-ramp from the war to implement political transformation. Instead, the “pro-Palestine” and international solidarity movements completely ignored Hamas’s criminality against Palestinians and Israelis alike while failing to promote pragmatic, realistic pathways forward to save the most Palestinian lives and make it clear that Hamas’s actions are unpopular, unsupported, and condemned.
Secretary Blinken is right on the money with his remarks. The “pro-Palestine” movements across the world after October 7 bear a significant responsibility for prolonging this war and directly contributing to the massive suffering of Palestinians in the coastal enclave. This dereliction of duty delegitimizes almost the entirety of the premise upon which current “pro-Palestine” activism is built. Take a step back and never, ever speak for, over, or on behalf of the Palestinian people!
@CCOS@drdrdaria Gymnasielærer her: jo, det bliver der undervist i i danske gymnasier. Vi har metodefrihed, men mange underviser netop i sådanne "skamfulde" emner i dag. Vi underviser også i, hvordan man underviser i historie i andre lande f.eks. Rusland, hvor du kan du tale om undladelsessynder
In a piece with @Newsweek, I discuss the failures of "pro-Palestine" activists a year after October 7 and the squandered opportunities to effectively build support for the Palestinian cause and build broad alliances to actually help the Palestinian people.

Families of the hostages gave a press statement yesterday evening near the Begin Gate:

"Since the beginning of July there has been a deal, ready to be signed. But the new conditions added by Netanyahu - the main one being the Philadelphi Corridor stipulation - are what is preventing this deal from happening. This is nothing but another one of Netanyahu’s spins. Expose the truth! Do not let him kill the deal!"
"A Prime Minister who protects his seat of power at the expense of the lives of hostages who are abandoned in captivity to suffer unspeakable torture and the cruelest death - is guilty of committing a crime against his own people!"

Women in Afghanistan are being obliterated—no voice, no face, no existence. The Taliban’s latest decrees are nothing short of barbaric: women banned from singing, reciting poetry, or even speaking aloud in public. Their faces and bodies must hidden from the world.
This isn’t just an Afghanistan tragedy; it is a stain on the global conscience, brought about by our failure to act.
I spoke to several Gazans today about Hamas’s criminal conduct & behavior and how the Islamist group is continuing to fire useless/worthless rockets near population and displacement centers, only to elicit massively destructive IDF retaliation and new evacuation orders that displace hundreds of thousands of civilians. They said that Hamas is using some of its mouthpieces to claim these rockets are being fired by “jawasees” or “3omala,” which means spies/collaborators with Israel and that Hamas wouldn’t engage in this level of recklessness. The group’s own videos and statements suggest otherwise, confirming launches from numerous places in Gaza where the IDF either withdrew or isn’t operating.
While it is impossible to confirm various details during the fog of war, one thing is clear: Hamas’s suicidal behavior continues to hold 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza hostage to a nefarious and destructive calculus that doesn’t care one bit for the consequences experienced by civilians. Worse, Hamas is deliberately inviting Israeli incursions and military attacks in areas that inflict maximum suffering and pain on civilians, hoping to cause international outcry and fury to stop the war. This isn’t “Zionist propaganda” or talking points; it is a fact and the truth of how Hamas chooses to engage in asymmetric warfare in a losing war of its own starting and creation. Think about that before calling this terror enterprise Palestinian “resistance.”

One woman, #SifanHassan, is celebrated worldwide for winning an Olympic medal while promoting the hijab. At the same time, another woman, #ArezooBadri, refused to submit to Iran’s mandatory hijab. For this, the police shot at her car, leaving her paralyzed. She now lies in a hospital bed, forgotten by the world. Her photo was sent to me by her friend, trembling with fear of being arrested for sharing it.
Who will you choose to give a voice to?
We, the women of Iran, refuse to let the Islamic regime use our bodies to promote their ideology. For this defiance, we pay with our lives. But tragically, this struggle doesn’t make international headlines anymore.
The world is painfully unjust, and it breaks my heart but we won’t give up our fight.
To those in the West who have never lived under a terrorist regime and to those who lack the courage to confront authoritarianism: you who speak perfect English while educating us about our experiences in the Middle East, trying to convince democracies to negotiate with the very leaders of the organizations that threaten our lives—I say this: They are the Negotiators of Terror, and their only diplomacy is hostage-taking diplomacy.
We should not mourn when terrorists are consumed by the fire they ignited. Did you mourn the killing of Osama bin Laden by U.S. forces in 2011? No! Many celebrated it as a significant victory against terrorism, a symbol of justice for the victims of the 9/11 attacks.
The deaths of ISIS leaders, like Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, underscore how the downfall of key figures can destabilize terrorist organizations and enhance global security.
And what of the killings of Qassem Soleimani and Ismail Haniyeh? Yes, millions in the Middle East celebrated their deaths, knowing that finally, these killers reaped what they had sown. It is time we recognize the reality: when terrorists fall, it is not a tragedy; it is a triumph.
