If they thought women were men’s equals, these videos would celebrate the women’s strength and resilience instead of criticizing the men. If a gender role is called sexist when it disadvantages women, but romantic, empowering, or desirable when it benefits women, then the standard isn’t simply opposition to gender roles. It’s opposition to the gender roles women don’t want, while preserving the ones they benefit from. That’s not a consistent argument for equality. That’s selective rejection of gender roles based on who benefits.
