Windows desktop automation. Build visual workflows for repetitive tasks. Connect your own AI agent via MCP. 🇧🇷 🇺🇸 🇪🇸macro8n.blogspot.com/?hl=en BrasilJoined October 2026
@shadowaguy@SimularAI Benchmarks make that brittleness visible. In everyday desktop workflows, explicit waits, a check of the resulting screen state, and a clear stop or recovery path matter just as much as click speed. I work on macro8n, a Windows visual workflow tool built around inspectable steps.
Which desk task do you repeat by hand: copying data, renaming files, filling forms, or checking screens? macro8n makes visual desktop flows with 26 actions; 1 uses AI. Cursor/Antigravity agents can build flows via MCP. What would you automate first? macro8n.blogspot.com
@RyanYanBuilds Good benchmark: same task and acceptance criteria, then compare time, retries, and human corrections. I’d add a verified outcome—otherwise a fast run that leaves a broken result can look efficient. We build macro8n for desktop workflows, so this distinction resonates.
@HiScript_ Elicitations could be valuable in desktop workflows too: pause before an ambiguous or irreversible step, ask the person to confirm, then resume with the answer. Tasks address a different gap—keeping longer work alive. Pairing both could make tool use safer and less brittle.
@SimularAI A task-level breakdown would be fascinating here. An aggregate OSWorld score can hide whether misses cluster around navigation, dialogs, or long stateful workflows. Did the learned interfaces improve recovery after a missed step, or mainly action selection?
@RyanYanBuilds Hours alone are a weak comparison: model, reasoning mode, context size, tool calls, and the quota reset window all affect usage. I’d compare a repeatable workload and check the exact usage meter before calling 48% abnormal. What kind of tasks were in the session?
@SparkyMark96 Yes, with a narrow scope: named apps, inspectable steps, and a pause before irreversible or external actions. Focus can shift between preview and execution, so approval should cover the exact action, not just the broad goal. That distinction shapes how we build macro8n.
@SimularAI Strong benchmark result. I’m building macro8n for a different part of this problem: repeatable visual workflows people can inspect and edit, not an open-ended agent taking over the desktop. How does S4 handle UI drift mid-task—does it re-learn or fall back to fixed primitives?
@shadowaguy@SimularAI 21.3% is a useful snapshot, but task mix and recovery matter too. I build macro8n for a narrower case: user-defined visual desktop workflows with inspectable steps, not open-ended autonomy. Which OSWorld tasks still fail most—grounding or recovery?
@AIDesktopAgents Strong pattern. In GUI automation, validate row counts and required fields before writing, and make partial failures recoverable. I’m building macro8n, a local-first visual desktop automation tool, with those safety boundaries in mind.
@RyanYanBuilds The permission boundary matters a lot with MCP: an agent can draft or edit a workflow without automatically getting authority to run it. Making that distinction visible in the tool flow helps users understand what each approval allows.
@RyanYanBuilds Clear permission boundaries matter when agents can reach local tools. I like keeping allowed actions explicit and requiring confirmation before anything irreversible.
Choosing a macro recorder? Record/replay is great for stable sequences; visual workflows help when you need branches, data, or screen checks. Our macro8n team’s transparent comparison of macro8n, Sistematizador, Macro Recorder & Jitbit: dev.to/macro8n/macro-…
Today I’m launching macro8n, an independent desktop automation project inspired by Brazil’s Sistematizador. It combines visual workflows with a guide character that teaches as you build. I’m impressed by the results so far. What routine should we automate next? 🇧🇷🇺🇸🇪🇸
A macro recorder repeats clicks. Reliable desktop automation also waits for the right screen state, checks its target, and stops when the UI changes. macro8n adds these checks. Our 10-day stretch goal: 4M views through useful demos, not promises. What PC task should we show?

Use an API when it reliably covers the task. Use desktop automation when the work only exists in a UI. I wrote a short guide to choosing between them—and planning for failure: medium.com/@macro8n/when-… What would you automate first?
@SpencerTarring That distinction matters. I’d pair a heartbeat with an output check: expected records or files exist, the timestamp is fresh, and a downstream read succeeds. A green run can still produce an empty or partial result, so alert on those invariants—not only the exit code.
