#RevisionTip Looking for ways to streamline text? In most cases you can easily cut phrases like “I saw,” “she glanced,” etc. Ex: I saw the girl carve a letter “G” on her desk. ➡️The girl carved a letter “G” on her desk. (We know the protagonist witnessed the act.) #amrevising
#RevisionTip: If you find you tend to use the reiterative lens when drafting, feel free to include such phrases to help you access the story as you write the first draft. You can always do a targeted pass to trim it later.
@marchsoloway I call that distancing the reader.
@marchsoloway Yes, excellent tip. It's called filtering. Seven Drafts by Allison K Williams has more about it.
@marchsoloway *that* is always a good one to check for
@marchsoloway My manuscript was polished and ready to submit. I pulled up your wishlist. Oh no! You're closed to picture books. Hopefully you'll open again soon.
