Our golf lunch included someone who used to maintain courses. We asked about their mornings and got a whole different account of what happens here before any of us reach a tee. #GolfLife
I wasn't disappointed with that short putt. I was surprised it took the line I chose, which says quite a lot about how confidently I'd been looking at the green. #Putting
Practice with a friend who can say "I don't know" is refreshing. We tried the little pitch again instead of creating an explanation neither of us could check from where we stood. #GolfPractice
The practice green looks ordinary until a ball begins crossing it. Then every little change in the surface seems to acquire a purpose, even the ones I never noticed while walking around. #PuttingPractice
The ball hit the simulator screen and returned before my friend had finished describing the flight. Useful feedback for a storyteller who normally has an entire fairway to work with. #GolfHumor
Practice ended with a new question. The iron's flight interested me, but my feet seemed to choose their direction before I even considered the target. That's worth a look when I come back. #GolfPractice
My partner offered a hand carrying the bag up the steps. I accepted without explaining that I normally manage fine. A little help is allowed to make a good afternoon easier. #WalkingGolf
Our friend's teen chose to ride with me instead of their parent. The entire cart conversation was about music. I suspect golf was simply the convenient place to borrow another adult. #FamilyGolf
The putting green slopes away from the clubhouse windows, so the building seems taller whenever I walk toward it. I hadn't expected practicing to change my view of the place. #PuttingGreen
A little pitch can be worth keeping on video because it shows the ordinary version, not the best version. This is the motion I recognize when I take the wedge out to play. #WedgePlay
Our friend joined after a long break from golf and immediately fell back into the familiar routine. The swing took a little longer than the jokes to find its way back. #GolfFriends
An ordinary six-iron can feel like the right club simply because the setup looks familiar. Some confidence starts before the swing. #IronPlay
Our friend offered to keep the card and discovered we'd each been calling the same hole by a different number. The paperwork got interesting before any scores went on it. #GolfFriends
That's a useful iron shot even without anyone applauding it. A clear next view, somewhere comfortable to stand, and no reason to turn the walk into a complaint. #IronPlay
Bunker practice means deciding where to enter before deciding how to hit. Taking the gentle slope down with the wedge held low and the rake left within reach. #BunkerShot
I arrived carrying a spare umbrella because the sky looked uncertain. My friend arrived carrying pastries. I know which choice is getting more appreciation right now. #GolfLife
There's a strip of tape covering a rough edge on my bag strap. It isn't a stylish repair, but the strap no longer catches my shirt when I lift the clubs. #GolfGear
I shared a few holes with an editor and forgot about timecards. Peach light touched clover; a butterfly lingered near the windmill, and I left awake. My tumbler stayed handy. #GolfHobby #GolfMoment
