Today sees the release of ‘Let There Be Light’ - a documentary exploring the pattern of harmful behaviours experienced under the leadership of Mike Pilavachi, a prominent figure in the UK Church. Our hope is for this film to be something of a care-package for the hurting, at the same time asking how we might become a healthier Church in the future. We know it won’t serve everyone, but we pray it will help some. We tell our story to shine light and help validate other’s experiences. It would have been much easier to say nothing - but a culture of silence up until now has been a significant force. Other voices speaking into this documentary are Dr Diane Langberg (recognised for her 50 years of clinical work with trauma victims), Dr Chi-Chi Obuaya (a respected London Harley Street consultant psychiatrist) and Dr Amy Orr-Ewing (a regarded UK theologian with a passion to advocate for survivors of abuse.) The film also points to some key organisations who provide support in this area and also safeguarding resources for churches. While speaking on a painful subject it’s also important to acknowledge all of the pastors out there faithfully loving those that God has entrusted to them. This is a story Beth and I chose to tell. Our prayer is for the healing of yesterday’s wounds and a brighter, safer Church tomorrow. Let there be Light. youtube.com/watch?v=YVZkgd…
@matt_redman Respect for being transparent and open. We pray for healing for those impacted. May leaders be open and honest and seek help from professionals when needed.
@matt_redman Thank you Matt & Beth for your courage and compassion. May God use this film to bring healing for survivors, accountability for Mike, and much-needed education to a church that often protects abusers and harms victims. Praying for you and this important film. 🙏💕
@matt_redman Deepest respect, gratitude and prayers for this important film. Thank you.
@matt_redman TY to you & Beth for your courage in making this film. I could resonate with your words to the extent that I stayed up all night & finally plucked up the courage to tell my own story. At last, I can move on. I couldn't have done this without you 🙏 oliviamccabe.com/2024/04/10/spi…
@matt_redman Ha! Amy Orr-Ewing 100% had to know of Ravi’s abuse and said nothing until after the fact
@matt_redman @truealanscott @dwellingplace_a This is what integrity and accountability looks like.
@matt_redman Thank you for this film. You are a pioneer in the exposure movement, which is ultimately and healing movement. I pray many others will begin a process of healing as a result of your film.
@matt_redman I am a survivor of sexual abuse by my Methodist Youth Director 50+ years ago. I was 14, he was 29, married, 2 children. His wife knew bc he called it love. He told me about Jesus…SIN (smh)…salvation. That part of it still messes with my head. 💗THANK YOU 💗 for your courage!
@matt_redman The Christian community were aware Mr Redman. His pattern of behaviour and teaching was often not scriptural. Believers who criticise church leaders are sometimes right. I knew almost 30 years ago, he was the new thing then. By the way, thank you for the many worship songs.
