I get that sometimes we can be surprised when D.C. does things right. But why is it that everyone who writes about D.C. for a national publication still has to reference Marion Barry and the Control Board? Like this, in @smencimer's story on the distribution of rapid tests:
The full story is here: motherjones.com/politics/2022/… Yes, D.C. was certainly once in a terrible fiscal place. But the Control Board ended decades ago, and we've since had balanced budgets. No, not everything works well, but D.C.'s isn't a never-ending municipal failure!
@maustermuhle This is especially vexing because the author isn't somebody who parachuted in from another part of the country. She has lived here for decades & covered local issues for @wcp back in the '90s.
@maustermuhle @smencimer S/O Mayor 4 Life …… @MayorBowser punching air somewhere everytime the great Barry is named….. Barry was better than any politician that currently serves in DC 🤷🏿♂️
