Moving forward, storm drain markers should continue to be evaluated using frameworks such as community-based social marketing to improve their effectiveness and SPU should partner with social justice and equity organizations to reach diverse community voices. #POEcap (6/6)
Based on the community-based social marketing criteria, the paint stencil scored the highest. But, the stencil could be greatly improved by integrating the voices of the community and providing more access to information into the design. #POEcap (5/6)
So I evaluated 3 common marking types (stencil, medallion, and mural) on best practices of community-based social marketing which were clear behavior, benefit highlight, at point of decision, community support, and access to more information. #POEcap (4/6)
During the winter, I worked with Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) in their Stormwater Education and Outreach Team. I conducted 11 stormwater expert interviews and a literature review of community-based social marketing techniques and successful campaigns. #POEcap (3/6)
Even though marking is used to reduce these behaviors, it could be greatly improved by integrating frameworks such as community-based social marketing. CBSM emphasizes direct contact with people and considering the specific community when creating solutions. #POEcap (2/6)
Stormwater runoff impacted by individual behaviors such as littering, pesticide use, or car washing, are a leading cause of pollution in the Puget Sound. One way to prevent these behaviors is with storm drain markers by bringing attention to the drain. #POEcap (1/6)

Another source I recently found for my synthesis significance is the Puget Sound Toxics Assessment published by the WA Department of Ecology. It explains what types of pollutants are found in Puget Sound and the effect of those pollutants. #ENVIR492 apps.ecology.wa.gov/publications/d…
