Hearing from very good people about the redundancy disaster happening at the University of Lincoln. No one deserves this. We really do need so much change in HE.
So here it is “don’t blame me.” Senior management and the high salaries which come with it also carry responsibility. The problems are sector wide but not every university has been impacted, or as badly, and not all are responding in the same way. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
Not a single member of this department deserves to lose their job. Every single one has been utterly incredible in their teaching and delivered content better than this university deserves. Honestly shame on the university

It’s really hard to describe the pressures of being an academic at risk of redundancy. You still have to deliver everything the job demands (and normal working conditions demand way too much, prompting years of industrial action) in teaching, research & admin …/1
So sad. @adefty is the world’s leading expert on U.K. parliamentary oversight of intelligence (a hugely important topic). His work on U.K. covert propaganda is genuinely pioneering and a huge influence on my own research. Outrageous to be in this position.

What is happening at Lincoln is 😡🤯. In my sub-field @psa_parl, colleagues there have made a significant contribution over at least 2 decades & Lincoln is seen as one of the best places to do parliamentary research. It beggars belief that management would want to destroy that.

Disgraceful @unilincoln plans to axe over 220 staff jobs. UCU members are fighting back, we must stop these indefensible cuts 👇

In Lincoln Social & Political Sciences, we face 4 job losses (on top of 2 leaving by voluntary severance, and several who left earlier without replacement). What mgmt proposes would cut staff who teach on growing programmes, & move us from 8 profs at the start of the year to 4🙃

Important context here: in REF21 History was the highest placed of 22 UoAs at Lincoln in terms of overall GPA and outputs; one of only 4 UoAs in the institution to get 100% 3* and 4* for environment; only Social Policy and Allied Health came higher in national subject rankings.

Incredibly sad as we face 6 more redundancies in History at UoLincoln on top of the loss of 3 valued colleagues (via voluntary severance). We've always punched above our weight in terms of research + teaching and this is such a sad comment on all of that work and UK HE overall.
my radical hypothesis is that most students work roughly commensurately to what it takes for them to get the kinds of grades they value. the kind of grades they value varies a lot by individual, goals, and setting. most US college students are at nonselective state universities.

This is the nonsense “make refugees disappear this way”
VS “make refugees disappear that way”
Promises that have brought us to the stupid, deadly, chaotic mess we’re in.
People move, we always have and - no matter the colour of politicians’ lies - we always will. Deal with it.

As someone who was there—who leapt out of the way of Fields’ car and saw Heather Heyer die—I still cannot quite believe that people are proudly posting shit like this.
