Politics matter because policies matter because people matter. And what people saw during Covid was that there were policies that were hurting the people that they loved, and the way that you change policies is by getting involved in politics. Don’t like it? Tough. Elections have consequences.
@4TiffanyJustice Should churchs or other religious organizations that integrate sermons and politics lose their non profit designation ?
@mcuban @4TiffanyJustice @mcuban should all non profits that engage in politics lose their non-profit status?
@mcuban @4TiffanyJustice A lot of predominantly black churches during the Obama era would have lost their non-profit designation, too. Both sides of the political aisle. So, no. My answer is no.
Let’s look at the law. That prohibits political campaign activity by charities and churches by defining a 501(c)(3) organization as one which does not participate in, or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of or opposition to any candidate. He was clearly calling out Trump’s endorsement of Lee Greenwood’s Bible. Thus opposition of a Political Candidate.
@mcuban @4TiffanyJustice I’m sorry Pot meet Kettle. Don’t you own and NBA team that’s also considered a Non Profit? That once confused me until I could clearly see here Shaq’s Magic Act. 👀 NFL also a non profit. I’m watching a “practice of a craft” in this photo at a game. Like churches I see now.
@mcuban @4TiffanyJustice That’s like saying that sports team shouldn’t get any tax breaks for playing in a particular city/state.
@mcuban @4TiffanyJustice No. Videos from sermons like this should be public and publicized and it's up to members of other congregations to reach out to these parishioners and persuade them to find a new church and pastor.
@mcuban @4TiffanyJustice Considering how non profits in general have been exploited to launder money and traffic human beings I’d say nobody should be tax exempt and many should be shut down.
