It’s very unfortunate that the civil war and carnage in Sudan have continued unabated. The suffering of civilians is quite unimaginable. The situation has been further deteriorating very recently. As a home to tens of thousands of refugees from Tigray and also of other parts of Ethiopia, we are particularly concerned that the war theatre is coming dangerously close to refugee camps in eastern Sudan- to #Tenedba and #Umrakuba, among others. While the humanitarian situation in those camps has always been dire, the growing proximity of the actual fighting to those areas has made it even more unsettling. It is therefore imperative that regional players with influence on the warring parties as well as the international community at large exert pressure on both sides to immediately halt fighting and protect civilians as best they can. It’s also incumbent upon the government of the FDRE to do whatever it takes to end the suffering of Ethiopian refugees.

The whereabouts of leaders of #Tigray’s four opposition parties still unknown a day after they were detained by police in Thursday’s protest after @reda_getachew’s Interim R. Administration called it "illegal". Journalists & activists are among those brutally beaten by police.

In a blatant disregard to norms and court proceedings, the judge granted the police to keep Semhal for 17 days under their custody - 14 days is the maximum allowed! The whole case #JusticeForZewdu is fishy and full of abuse of power. We call for #JusticeForZewdu & #ProtectSemhal

Occupation & ethnic cleansing of #Irob, land inhabited by Tigray’s indigenous minority, is ongoing. Without the renewal of the #ICHREE mandate, the path to justice is obstructed. Without accountability, the cycle of violence against minorities will only continue. #Justice4Tigray

Some of the slogans by the peaceful demonstrators are below. Here, you see them heading to Romanat Square while getting stopped at every corner 1. Rights of those under custody should be respected 2. Salary to the civil servants and pensioners

@reda_getachew's police force beating, torturing & somehow seemingly training Karate on peaceful protester. The one who is being beaten is Tedros Belay, a recently demobilized TDF member. He is a highly trained combatant, but he stayed calm while his friends in the army beat him.
