The first part of this ad didn’t seem like a big deal. The takeoff of the classic Paul Harvey “God made a farmer” part is fine. But that bit in the middle—“a shepherd to mankind who won’t ever leave nor forsake them.” That is blasphemy and idolatry.
Now, I don’t think this in anyway means a “movement of millions of Christians see him as the resurrected Christ” as Politico claims. My guess is he’s got people on his team who’ve seen all the Alberta-Du Mez-Moore rhetoric about that and figure there’s an opportunity to lean into it. This should be condemned.
@megbasham What are your thoughts on this?
@megbasham I doubt Trump even knew that was from scripture lol
Megan, here's something to consider when voting: Surprisingly, most people on both sides don't seem to understand that when they vote, they're not actually voting for a person. They're voting for a policy. The way our country is set up, Elected Representatives are supposed to represent us in their position, not their lives or individual conduct. I would prefer that we were set up differently and exclusively represented by genuine Christians in good standing within the Church, but that's not our current situation. And without a massive movement of God, it's unlikely that will change. Right now, I don't care if trump sends mean tweets and hurts feelings or if vivek is a Hindu millionaire. I want my Christian values represented in the policies that the executive branch will develop and implement and will be fair and impartial in executing their executive responsibilities, including bearing the sword. In a separate, but related note, it's quite sad that a Hindu sounds more Christian than all the professing Christian candidates. If you love Trump or hate Trump, you're doing it wrong. If you're more emotionally invested in presidential politics than your local church congregation, you're doing it wrong. As Christians, especially if you're reformed post mil, we ought to do everything we can to implement Christians rule in every sphere. And until that happens, we need to focus on policies that will further that larger goal. So let's not get wrapped up in shallow talking points, identity politics, and partisan loyalties. It's about policies, not personalities. My .02
@megbasham That’s where the ad broke down for me. I liked it because of the Paul Harvey thing. It’s clever. The ending not so much.
@megbasham Trying to paint him as a guy who go hungry ‘till the job is done and goes to Church. He’s not one of us. No way.
