@SER_Malaga Because the hotel management keeps trying to downplay the situation, as if this was not a major disaster. Every time I tried to speak to them to seek my rights, I was treated rudely — almost as if I were the guilty one instead of the victim.

@SER_Malaga Our safety was completely ignored. I was sleeping in that room that night. I witnessed the fire myself. I escaped through thick smoke. If I had been just 10 seconds later, I probably would have been poisoned by the smoke and wouldn’t have been able to get out of the room.

@SER_Malaga We escaped in such panic that my husband didn’t even have a T-shirt on. Some people escaped wearing only their boxers. Some people were running barefoot. I feel the need to say these things so people truly understand the seriousness of what happened.

@SER_Malaga But what if both people in a room had been unconscious? Who would have known they were missing? Can you imagine such an emergency system? Because honestly, I still cannot believe it myself.

@SER_Malaga After escaping the fire and reaching downstairs, nobody checked the guest list to see whether everyone had made it out safely. The only question asked was: “Do you know anyone who is missing?”

@SER_Malaga Should we buy plane tickets from Spain back to Türkiye? Should we buy clothes because we escaped half-dressed? Should we buy shoes because some people escaped barefoot? Or should we buy basic hygiene products like toothbrushes and deodorant just to feel human again?

@SER_Malaga But the truly tragic and unbelievable part is this:12 hours after the fire, when I finally managed to get my bag back through my own efforts, the hotel’s general manager without even knowing what was inside the bag said to me:“If you have your bag, then you must have money too.”

@SER_Malaga I personally spoke to the firefighters and, when the fire had calmed down a little, they risked going through the window of the burning hotel to retrieve my bag containing my passports. May God bless every one of them.

@SER_Malaga If you are not going to be prepared for a situation like this, then when exactly will you be prepared? I had to run out of the room without even taking my bag. I ran to save my life. I had no wallet, no phone, no passport — nothing with me.
