the funniest part of Tarantino's ten movie limit is that it's based on some Classic Hollywood guys who got worse in age, meanwhile many of our modern masters (Spielberg, Scorsese, Lynch, Miller, Cameron, Miyazaki, etc) continue doing incredible work without breaking a sweat
This was not an invitation to tell me you don’t like any of these filmmakers recent work or that you for some reason don’t know that TWIN PEAKS: THE RETURN exists
@metaplexmovies Great call If he has the energy and he sure seems to Come out and announce its 10 +10 Imagine the hype 🍿
@metaplexmovies Spielberg’s stuff after the mid 2000s is mediocre at best
@metaplexmovies Spielberg, Cameron, Lynch, all did much superior work earlier in their careers. For Scorcese, Flower Moon was good, but doesnt compare to his 70's-80's-90's classics. Same goes for other greats like Eastwood and Kubrick. Tarantino wants a near perfect filmography.
@metaplexmovies There is no chance he will be able to stop himself from making movies probably ever
@metaplexmovies Hawks is a director he’s mentioned. I don’t think it’s that the Classic Hollywood directors got worse, but that they didn’t adjust to New Hollywood, so Rio Lobo looks out of touch
@metaplexmovies I always imagined he was talking about Dipalma, Oliver Stone, Coppola and Ridley Scott
@metaplexmovies The famous definition of art as "inspiration plus limitation" may explain why filmmakers tend to flame out over time. As they get successful, gatekeepers throw money at anything they want to do. And the lack of limitation ruins them. But somehow, some buck the trend.
@metaplexmovies Clint Eastwood was doing great work well into other people's retirement age.
@metaplexmovies Nah, that's not the funniest part because I don't think it's correct. Hawks did Rio Bravo, Hatari, Man's Favorite Sport & El Dorado when he was older than QT. Ford did The Searchers, The Wings of Eagles, The Horse Soldiers, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance & 7 Women. Among others
