On Thursday of last week one of our very best civil servants, Paul Rowsell CBE, passed away. Paul was a wonderful colleague and the best adviser any minister could have. He was instrumental over many years in making local government work better for all. We will miss him terribly
@michaelgove Imagine my surprise that Communism backfires and makes life worse for everybody concerned. spectator.co.uk/article/goves-…
Because we all know that the real heroes of our society are the bureaucrats and civil servants who maintain the status quo and protect the interests of the rich and powerful. And let's not forget the irony of these politicians talking about "making local government work better for all" when their policies have consistently undermined local democracy, cut funding for essential services, and ignored the needs of marginalized communities. But at least Rowsell got a fancy CBE title and the admiration of his fellow elites. That's definitely more important than actually improving the lives of ordinary people or addressing the systemic inequality and corruption in our political system.
@michaelgove Thames Water CANNOT fail because they provide public services. If it fails, it will affect the workers and pension funds. The major owners ,a Quatari fund, will not notice the difference in their private wealth but the employees and customers will suffer.
@michaelgove This is a major failure of government and its oversight of public organisations which were allowed to be privatised and now are controlled by Quatari funds.
@michaelgove So much hate on here when you have tried simply to post a nice tribute to someone who has passed. Shocking that this has become the norm on this platform.
@michaelgove So sad, all these #excessdeaths Mr gove
@michaelgove Paul Rowsell played a huge part in developing the cabinet/scrutiny division in English local government. He was an excellent civil servant and public servant
@michaelgove Pity you clearly didn't take any of his advice then. RIP Paul in any case.
@michaelgove Sincere condolences to Paul’s family. Unfortunately, a tribute from someone as corrupt as you isn’t the commendation you think.
