The conversation currently happening around Caitlin Clark and A’ja Wilson underscores a commonly misunderstood racial dynamic. No one thinks liking Caitlin Clark makes someone a racist or that her fame & “marketability” is ONLY due to her race & not her talent. MOST ppl support who they identify with. Theres just more white ppl. There’s nothing wrong with that. But it’s also INSANE for anyone say that race is not a factor in Caitlin Clark’s perceived marketability and fame. Tiger Woods was the world’s best golfer AND he became a bazillionsire because he was also a BLACK golfer. Serena Williams is one of the best athletes of all time of any sex in any sport, but corporate sponsors flocked to her bc they saw a Black woman expanding the audience of a white sport. Same with Simone biles. Everyone openly acknowledges it. But when it comes to Caitlin Clark, there’s a reason people are reluctant to have this conversation. Despite what people say, America has NEVER been afraid to have a conversation about race. We just don’t like to talk about whiteness.
@michaelharriot It’s like Taylor Swift’s popularity boom after Kanye West interrupted her award acceptance. CC’s has been a great player all four years. Her popularity boomed in 2023 when Angel was shown as her villain. She’s a trash talking competitor whose new fans tuned in to save her.
@michaelharriot The women’s final four outdrew the men’s for the first time. It appears white peoples actually do like watching basketball but just like watching certain people play it.
What do you mean that we don’t like to talk about whiteness? That’s all I hear anymore is talking about whiteness. I read & enjoyed a lot of your posts. I almost followed you so that you show up more on my feed. I was disappointed to see your “whiteness” comment. So that’s why I’m asking what you meant by saying that. Maybe I’m misunderstanding.
@michaelharriot Disagree, Tiger Woods was loved because he was an amazing young talented and charismatic person to watch play, like Jordan, Serena, Djokovic, and many others of different race, ethnicity, and sex.
@michaelharriot What exactly is the point of the conversation as it relates to Caitlin Clark?
@michaelharriot Or, hear me out, women’s ball is trash and that’s why nobody watches. Clark won’t change that. Nothing will change that.
@michaelharriot She is straight, white, Catholic, has no tattoos, and respects and loves her father. Sure, I identify with her. She will shine as an example of situational awareness and impulse control so sorely lacking in the WNBA.
@michaelharriot Michael, you’re the most active Race Hustler on X. Literally everything you post is about race. Your book is about race. And, you have a large following. So clearly, talking about race has an audience. You are proof. How can you say no one wants to talk about it?
@michaelharriot White people love when white people dominate in a sport or field that has been associated with black dominance Black People love seeing Black people successful in a field or sport they have been artificial held out of Race is a factor in how we cheer for things
