Pakistan has lost a man whose legacy lies deep beneath its soil. Tariq Majeed Jaswal led exploration at OGDCL & Pakistan Oil fields through remarkable periods of discovery. His internationally recognised research helped decode some of Pakistan’s most complex petroleum geology. But perhaps his greatest legacy is yet to unfold. The wells he helped discover produced energy and the research he published produced knowledge. And the exploration roadmap he has left behind may produce discoveries for years to come. Few professionals leave their signature beneath the soil of their country. Tariq Majeed Jaswal did. May his knowledge and service become Sadaqah-e-Jariyah and may his soul rest in peace. Ameen.

Look at the state of this children’s ward at PIMs. Totally gutted. People had to break windows and jump out. Emergency gate was closed, fire equipment not working, medical staff not present. Terrible tragedy. Criminal negligence all round in this public hospital of the federal capital. No one has voluntarily resigned. Shameful ! Nayyar Bokhari and I were totally shaken by the state of the children’s side of the hospital. The federal health ministry should have ceased to exist by now after devolution but no, this is how it limps on claiming more and more public money. @PPP_Org is available for assistance and aid. Chairman @BBhuttoZardari was the first to take notice of it. Hearts go out to the families who lost their loved ones. 💔 Life will never be the same again for those bereaved parents. All prayers for them.

The Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) of the National Assembly has expressed profound grief and strongly condemned the tragic death of Ms. Hina Javed at the residence of her in-laws in Rawalpindi, amid reported circumstances suggesting severe violence and abuse. The WPC expressed deep concern over the circumstances surrounding Ms. Javed’s death and called for a transparent, impartial and thorough investigation to establish the facts and ensure that every individual found responsible or complicit is brought to justice in accordance with the law. Police have registered a case against her husband and a domestic worker employed at the residence. The WPC emphasised that the investigation must comprehensively examine the role of all individuals present at the time of the incident, as well as any other persons who may be connected to the case. Secretary WPC, Dr. Shahida Rehmani, MNA, extended her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and said, “The tragic death of Hina Javed is deeply disturbing and raises serious concerns about the safety and protection of women within their own homes. There must be no compromise on a fair and complete investigation, and anyone found responsible must be held accountable under the law.” The WPC stressed that violence against women in any form is unacceptable and called for effective enforcement of existing laws, stronger institutional mechanisms and greater accountability to ensure the safety, dignity and protection of women. The Women’s Parliamentary Caucus reaffirmed its commitment to raising its voice against violence against women and gender-based violence and to supporting legislative, institutional and policy measures aimed at ensuring justice, accountability and protection of women’s fundamental rights. @ShahidaRehmani @wpc_pak @appsocialmedia @PTVNewsOfficial

Why are people who don’t even belong to Islamabad making decisions for this city? If we wanted to live in a modern, high-flying metropolis, we would have moved to one. We chose to stay here for a reason, yet outsiders keep coming in and ruining the essence of this city

Hundreds of decades-old trees are being cut across Islamabad for the Marka-e-Haq memorial, DHA road projects and other developments. Questions remain over EPA approvals, institutional oversight, and whether new plantations can replace lost forests. @NuktaPakistan

This is my globally top-tier ranked Air Gradient Air Quality monitor in F-7/2 right now. Islamabad is turning into Lahore because you thought it needed flyovers, more plazas with empty floors no one buys, and less trees.

We cut 28000 of these down in Islamabad in last 3 years. Which is prob why AQI is 118. New York a massive urban city is 42 today.

Successive governments have turned civilian awards into a joke through partisan (often embarrassing) choices. Worse, bureaucrats now get decorated for simply doing their jobs. (Btw they control the nominations). Even deserving recipients end up tainted by the loss of credibility.

Very fruitful visit to Pakistan, whose good offices and brotherly efforts to bring back peace to our region we very much value. Shared Iran's position concerning workable framework to permanently end the war on Iran. Have yet to see if the U.S. is truly serious about diplomacy.

Pakistan has paid more than its due share for peace within and without. Even during current conflict resolution effort, Pakistan has paid more than its share. The people of the twin cities of #Islamabad and #Rawalpindi have suffered a lot during the periods of the dialogue. The people have missed work, business opportunities, students have missed schools just to ensure safety of our foreign guests. I am sure the state functionaries feel the pain of the inconvenience caused to common man and sincerely thank them for their sacrifices for the regional and global peace that benefits us as well. Thank you #Islamabad and #Rawalpindi @PresOfPakistan @CMShehbaz @TararAttaullah

Every issue you have listed is real. I have written about them elsewhere and will again. This piece was about the people, not the system. As for Pakistanis leaving if given the chance: many do. And then they carry Pakistan with them so fiercely that they build communities, raise their children bilingual, cook biryani for their neighbours in Toronto, and name their kids after grandparents they left behind in Lahore. That is the point. The love is not conditional on the governance being good. It exists despite the governance being terrible. That is what makes it worth writing about.

"What drives Pakistani hospitality is not generosity in the Western sense. It is honour. Hosting someone, even a stranger, even with a cup of tea you cannot really afford, is an act of personal dignity. The host is not doing you a favour. They are doing something for themselves: fulfilling a code that says a guest in your presence is your responsibility, your privilege, and your reputation. "

Amid talk of a peace deal of the century, Islamabad turns purple with jacaranda blossom. [Video by TehsinRazi]

Am so glad you celebrated #AshaBhosle in her death @AzharAbbas3 . She has to her credit the highest number of recorded songs anywhere in the world. She did not just belong to one country, she defined an entire era of South Asian melodic content along with Noor Jehan, who celebrated Asha as well, and vice versa. More than one generation grew up humming Bhosle’s signature film tracks. Please, let’s not lose all perspective here @reportpemra and start policing cultural transitions. #RIPashabhosle

PEMRA has issued a show-cause notice to Geo News for airing content related to the legendary subcontinent singer Asha Bhosle. It has always been customary to revisit and celebrate the work of iconic artists when reporting on them. In fact, for an artist of Asha Bhosle’s stature,

This is the same place which was bombed by Indians last year in May and they claimed total destruction. All delegations arrived at the same place.

Pakistan’s capital will be thrust into an unfamiliar global spotlight this weekend when it hosts arguably the most consequential diplomatic meeting of recent years. time.com/article/2026/0…

I have waited many years, decades even, to write these words and the day has finally arrived. Today I am proud to be a Pakistani. My piece in Dawn today. dawn.com/news/1990101
