We should build a half-dozen of these, evenly spaced, along California's central coast.
@mnolangray It’s insane that the coastal commission had so much power to prevent this from ever getting off the ground
@mnolangray Coastal commission would go ballistic.
@mnolangray Can we start here?
@mnolangray The coastal commission sent me a cease and desist just for liking this post
@mnolangray I am entirely convinced that there’s a large number of people from all income brackets that would move to a place like this in a heartbeat if it was along the coast in California. That being said, we need some cool ideas for Cape Cod for those of us on the east coast!
@mnolangray And then remove from the interior of California and restore Tulare Lake.
@mnolangray Why not just build more in existing cities instead of disrupting some of the last undeveloped natural coastline in the continental US? The central coast is almost entirely wilderness between San Luis Obispo and Monterey.
@mnolangray No way. A place like that is great to visit, take some pictures, and enjoy the quaint nostalgia for the old world. But I wouldn't live there if it was free.
@mnolangray You know, redoing to bastion fort/star fort walls as something to resist sea level change might actually work too. Especially if they try and create some reefs right off the coast (helping them grow/monitoring them will create a few jobs).
@mnolangray Reclaimed land or do you mean denser, existing urban areas?
@mnolangray San Simeon is undoubtedly one of the worst wastes of space in the entire country. That place should be a metropolis of epic proportions.
@mnolangray Hahahahaha - better to build them inland on land that already exists.
@mnolangray Tell the federal government we’re building coastal fortresses to fight a Chinese invasion and they’ll foot the bill.
@mnolangray I pledge to support this as long as it does not ruin any existing surf spots and I will knock doors if it’s designed to add new ones.
@mnolangray Or, even better, in the San Francisco Bay
@mnolangray God forbid we could just build neighborhoods like this. They would be WILDLY popular.
@mnolangray The Southern California coast would be a better fit, and would be closer to / easier to extend transit to. An extension of Playa VIsta, off the coast of Redondo, Long Beach, Newport, and Encinitas.
@mnolangray That’s going to work well with the exasperating climate crisis. We just had hurricane watch in LA last year..
