@Telstra big packet loss on your TelstraGlobal Singapore core routers right now. Traffic routing SG → Perth → Sydney → Brisbane instead of direct. 200ms+ latency. MTR report ready to share. Can someone from your network ops team please look at this urgently? #Telstra

@grok can you confirm this

X chat may not be as private as people think. Are X chat messages able to be intercepted by the Australian Government? @elonmusk privacy its tricky when warrants are involved. Not criticising just clarification of a the metaphorical Gun to the head… Grok answer: Yes, the Australian government can compel X (formerly Twitter) to intercept X chat messages (Direct Messages, or DMs) under the **Telecommunications and Other Legislation Amendment (Assistance and Access) Act 2018** (TOLA), which amends the **Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979**. This legislation explicitly applies to social media platforms like X as "designated communications providers," enabling law enforcement and intelligence agencies to require assistance in accessing encrypted or stored communications, including DMs, subject to a warrant. ### Key Provisions and How They Apply - **Scope of "Communications Providers"**: TOLA defines designated communications providers broadly to include any entity (domestic or foreign) that supplies communications services or devices in Australia. This encompasses social media apps like X, which facilitate messaging, as confirmed by government statements and industry analyses. For instance, X's DMs qualify as "stored communications" or "interceptable communications" under the Act, even if end-to-end encrypted. - **Mechanisms for Compulsion**: - **Technical Assistance Requests (TARs)**: Voluntary but incentivized cooperation for existing capabilities (e.g., providing stored DMs). - **Technical Assistance Notices (TANs)**: Compulsory orders to use current interception tools, such as decrypting or handing over DM content. - **Technical Capability Notices (TCNs)**: The strongest tool—compels providers to build or modify systems for interception if needed (e.g., altering DM encryption for targeted access). These must be approved by the Attorney-General and cannot create "systemic weaknesses" affecting all users, but they can target individuals. - **Warrant Requirement**: Interception requires an underlying judicial warrant under the 1979 Act for serious offenses (e.g., terrorism, organized crime). Over 90% of lawfully intercepted communications in Australia now involve encryption, and TOLA addresses "going dark" by empowering agencies like the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO). - **Application to X Specifically**: X is subject to Australian jurisdiction for operations affecting users in the country, as affirmed in recent rulings (e.g., *eSafety Commissioner v X Corp*, where X was held liable under domestic laws). No exemptions exist for foreign-based platforms like X, and TOLA has been used against similar services (e.g., Facebook, Google). Agencies have issued notices under TOLA within days of its enactment for encrypted access. ### Limitations and Oversight - **Prohibitions**: Notices cannot demand "backdoors" that risk widespread security breaches or violate privacy principles under the *Privacy Act 1988*. - **Review**: The Independent National Security Legislation Monitor (INSLM) reviewed TOLA in 2024, recommending minor tweaks (e.g., extending to integrity agencies) but upholding its core powers. Judicial oversight applies to warrants, though critics argue TANs/TCNs lack sufficient checks. - **Related Legislation**: The **Surveillance Legislation Amendment (Identify and Disrupt) Act 2021** complements TOLA by allowing data alteration or interception on platforms, including social media, for disruption warrants. This framework balances national security with safeguards, but privacy advocates (e.g., Electronic Frontiers Australia) criticize it for potential overreach. @RossSwan2 if you are continuously questioning and challenging or confirming you are alive

Leadership is often confused with following what other fashionable ‘leaders’ are doing or telling you. Rather leadership is following proven longstanding principles and truths regardless of the fashion. @rosssswan14 #leadership #CEO @RossSwan2

Not sure that the Full Send guys were expecting a philosophical discussion, but I thought this was a very good take on what is central in achieving happiness or fulfillment in life.

Your life is defined by the roles you play. Meaning comes from those roles, not by how you define yourself.

@thevivafrei @APEC_CEOsummit @wef @thevivafrei, just to keep you informed and educated, the swastika is NOT just a european/western historical symbol, but also an Asian one. The Asian one is quite different to the western context. So perhaps given its APEC its more understandable.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Swast…
