Darren brings an intriguing combination of processing speed, explosiveness and physical temperament off the edge. He plays from a balanced stance that allows him to attack without becoming overly committed before the snap, and his eyes are immediately active once the play begins to develop. There is very little hesitation between recognition and trigger. Once he gets the information he needs, he trusts the picture and goes. His first step gains immediate ground, and he stays underneath himself and turns that initial movement into acceleration rather than wasted motion. That short-area burst shows up when closing from the backside and when attacking blocking movement before the structure of the play can fully develop. He also shows great hip flexibility, allowing him to stay underneath blockers, redirect through traffic and maintain leverage without sacrificing his ability to accelerate.
His block recognition and pursuit ability add another layer to the profile. Darren identifies pullers and developing kick-out action quickly, showing the ability to beat blockers to the point of attack rather than allowing the offense to dictate the picture. His body control allows him to navigate moving bodies without getting caught in the wash, and he takes efficient angles when closing from the backside. There is intent behind the finish as well. Darren enjoys contact and carries a physical temperament when he arrives at the football. That combination of burst, leverage, processing and finish gives him multiple ways to impact a rep. His broader athletic background also adds intrigue. Having played WR, QB, RB and DB across summer platforms, he has shown movement ability and positional versatility beyond a traditional edge-only profile. He is comfortable operating from different body positions and has the athletic foundation to project into multiple defensive roles.
Final Thoughts: Darren plays with a good blend of instinct, athleticism and physicality. I like how quickly he processes the picture and how little wasted movement there is once he declares. He can stress blocking structures with his first step, stay underneath pads with natural leverage and close space with real intent. The movement does not feel reckless either. His pursuit angles and body control allow him to play fast while staying connected to the football. Add the dense frame, positional background and comfort playing from both a two-point stance and with his hand in the dirt, and there is plenty of developmental flexibility within the profile. There are clear traits off the edge, but when you look at the movement skills, positional background, physical temperament and ability to impact the game from different alignments, Darren looks like a true athlete on the defensive side of the football.
ATHLETE DNA:
• Quick Processing & Immediate Trigger
• Explosive first step with short-area closing burst
• Natural pad level with leverage through contact
• Advanced block recognition with efficient pursuit angles
• Athletic Versatility & Physical Temperament

Plenty to like here. Let's get into it
⏱️ 0:00 — Balanced Stance + Processing Quickness + Closing Intent
At first glance, this might look like nothing more
REMINDER:
Any subscriber to our Michigan high school basketball page, kampskornermichhsbball.substack.com, gets access to the "COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESUME". It's a PDF that can be edited and hopefully used as a recruiting tool! It can be found under the "PERKS" tab.
PROSPECT ALERT:
Jackson Newton @JacksonNewton08 is a must see senior guard! I love the way he goes at the rim off the bounce. He combines a little shimmy and speed and burst to turn his defenders hip. Then Newton wins with the lower front shoulder and creates space with it. That type of dribble drive almost always wins a race to the rim.

🚨UP NEXT: Jayden Prempeh @JayPrempeh
IOL | Alpine Rams | UK
Initial Impressions: An athletic interior offensive lineman with good lateral movement, technical control and the ability to execute in multiple run concepts. Shows clean movement on kick-outs, combo work and double teams, but there is quite a bit more to his game that stands out once you get deeper into the film.
We’re excited to work with Jayden and his family throughout the evaluation process as he continues pursuing opportunities to play college football in the U.S.
