Can an AI learn the wrong lesson?
A machine can recognize patterns without truly understanding what they mean.
At the Museum of AI, explore how machines learn, make predictions and sometimes get things wrong.

@mathelirium I agree. AI may transform science, but progress must serve humanity. What we can achieve is not always what we should pursue. Human values, judgment and accountability must remain central to the decisions we make about AI.
@mathelirium AI has genuinely moved my work forward. While building an independent digital museum, it has helped enormously with the technical side. But researching, checking sources and deciding what deserves to be presented still take time.More output doesn't necessarily mean more knowledge
@mathelirium Building an independent digital museum has shown me how much we depend on shared knowledge. But if AI makes it easier to reuse ideas without giving credit, people may become less willing to share. Openness needs attribution, not just access.
@NextScience The 40-fold reduction in errors is impressive. But the 8% success rate is just as interesting. It shows how much work remains between a promising experiment and a technology that can scale reliably.
@FT We spend a lot of time discussing what AI can do, and far less on what it takes to run it. Data centres need enormous investment, energy and public trust. These costs, and their impact on local communities, deserve much more attention.
@ScienceNews Finding the right answer is one thing. Understanding why it works is another. I think the real value of AI in mathematics will be helping people explore ideas they might not have reached on their own!
@MITSloan An important distinction. Even when AI can make a decision, someone still needs to understand the reasoning and take responsibility for the outcome. That becomes even more important as the risks increase!!!
@Nature This raises an important question: How can we trust a scientific image if we dont know how it was produced? Clear documentation and transparency are essential, especially when AI is involved.
@PhysInHistory That a machine can learn to recognise patterns from examples, without someone writing a separate rule for every case. The early perceptron experiments still fascinate me!!!!

@vangoghmuseum The part about Arles reminding Van Gogh of a Japan he had never visited is fascinating. It shows how much art can shape the way we imagine a place!!!
