The Zimbabwe Stock Exchange returned 68.5% in dollar terms year-to-date through July 31, 2026, overtaking Nigeria's 66.9% to become Africa's best-performing market, per African Markets data.
Annual inflation slowed to 3.2% in July from 95.8% a year earlier, aided by the 2024 gold-backed ZiG currency. Foreign participation on the ZSE rose to 26.5% in Q2 from 15.4%, with foreign trade value surging 153.9% to ZiG743.6 million ($27.7 million).
Advancing Trade: Harare African Trade Centre Reaches 75% Completion
Afreximbank’s Regional Director for the Southern African Region, Mr. Peter Adeshola Olowononi, recently visited the Harare African Trade Centre (AATC) to assess construction progress ahead of completion, testing and commissioning.
Now 75% complete, the Harare AATC follows the successful commissioning of the Abuja AATC in 2025 and forms part of Afreximbank’s growing network of African Trade Centres designed to strengthen intra-African trade and investment.
Once operational, the Centre will provide trade finance, market intelligence, business support, conference and exhibition facilities, and networking opportunities, reinforcing Zimbabwe’s role as a strategic gateway for trade and investment across Southern Africa.
The Harare AATC reflects Afreximbank’s continued commitment to building the infrastructure that enables trade, attracts investment and accelerates industrialisation across the continent.

Capital, industry and trade must work together, Africa must finance its production, process its resources and move its goods across its own markets. That is how we create value, retain value in Africa and build sovereignty that is practical, not theoretical.

Today I, and the Zimbabwean delegation, we held high-level engagements with senior World Bank officials, including Regional VP for Eastern and Southern Africa Ndiame Diop, VP for Development Finance Dr. Akihiko Nishio, and MD for Operations Anna Bjerde.
The 2026 IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings kicked off today in Washington, DC, under the theme "Building Prosperity Through Policy," where I am leading Zimbabwe's delegation at the meetings, which run from April 13-18, 2026.
For decades, dependence on fossil fuels meant dependence on volatility. In past oil shocks, countries had little choice but to absorb the pain.
Now they have an exit ramp: Homegrown renewable energy has never been cheaper, more accessible, or more scalable.
The resources of the clean energy era cannot be blockaded or weaponized. There are no price spikes for sunlight & no embargoes on the wind.
The fastest path to energy security, economic & national security is clear:
Speed up a just transition away from fossil fuels & toward renewable energy.
They Watched Us Drown. Now the Flood Is Coming for Them.

THE technology tsunami that decimated the print media industry is now headed for banking, insurance, law, accounting, and property.
The difference this time is the speed and the punch. What took the internet fifteen years to do to newspapers, artificial intelligence will do to the professions in a fraction of that time.
And unlike the slow bleed of print circulation, AI does not erode revenue gradually. It arrives, and entire categories of work vanish.
I write this not as a commentator but as someone who has lived through every stage of digital destruction.
As Chairman of Alpha Media Holdings, which publishes NewsDay, The Standard, and The Zimbabwe Independent, and as the longest-serving controlling shareholder of South Africa’s Mail & Guardian from 2002 to 2017, I watched the collapse of classified advertising, the migration of readers to free online platforms, the haemorrhaging of circulation, and the agonising reinvention that follows when your entire business model is rendered obsolete.
In South Africa, the Audit Bureau of Circulations reported a seventeen percent year-on-year drop in newspaper circulation in 2024.
Two historic titles, the 125-year-old Pretoria News and the nearly eighty-year-old Weekend Post, simply ceased to exist. The Mail & Guardian itself, one of Africa’s most celebrated newspapers, has been battered by the same forces. What was once unthinkable became inevitable.
Throughout those years, executives in banking, insurance, property, and wealth management watched our struggles with sympathy and detachment. They read about our layoffs in the very newspapers we were fighting to keep alive. Some offered unsolicited advice.
But not once did most of them consider that the same tidal force drowning journalism was creeping toward their own front doors.
Here is the cruel irony: when a newspaper lays off staff, it becomes a headline. Our pain is documented in the open.
But when a bank quietly automates its back office, when an insurance company reduces claims staff, when a property firm replaces agents with algorithms, the silence is deafening.
Last week Wall Street witnessed an indiscriminate sell-off that should concentrate the mind of every white-collar professional in Zimbabwe and beyond.
When Anthropic released new AI automation tools targeting legal, financial, and data analysis work, approximately US$285 billion in market capitalisation was wiped out in a single trading day.
The S&P 500 software and services index fell nearly nine percent over five sessions. Thomson Reuters crashed over twenty percent. Salesforce is down twenty-six percent for the year.
Then came Altruist, a startup whose AI-powered tax planning tool, Hazel, can read a client’s tax returns and account statements and generate fully personalised tax strategies in minutes. Wealth management stocks tumbled. Insurify’s AI-powered insurance platform hammered broker stocks so badly that Willis Towers Watson suffered its worst trading session since 2008.
Real estate firms CBRE and Jones Lang LaSalle plunged twelve percent each. The market sent an unmistakable message: no industry built on knowledge work is safe.
The signals are everywhere. Last week Mustafa Suleyman, Microsoft’s AI chief, told the Financial Times that lawyers, accountants, marketers, and project managers will see most of their tasks “fully automated” within twelve to eighteen months. Anthropic’s CEO Dario Amodei has warned that AI could displace half of all entry-level white-collar jobs within one to five years. Spotify’s co-CEO revealed that the company’s best developers have not written a single line of code since December.
The IMF and the Government of Zimbabwe have reached a staff-level agreement on economic policies and reforms to be monitored under a 10-month Staff Monitored Programme (SMP), aimed at consolidating recent economic stabilisation gains.
The Minister of Finance, Hon. Prof. M. Ncube, and the Permanent Secretary highlighted that the timing of this agreement is critical, coming against the backdrop of sustained economic growth and stability, which strengthen the foundation of the SMP.
Zimbabwe’s economy continues on a growth trajectory, marked by the recent attainment of single-digit inflation of 4.1%, as well as prudent fiscal and monetary measures by Government.
N.B.: A press statement on the SMP to follow.
BREAKING: The $610 Billion AI Ponzi Scheme Just Collapsed
Last night at 4pm EST, something unprecedented happened. Nvidia stock rallied 5% on earnings, then crashed into negative territory within 18 hours. Wall Street algorithms detected what humans couldn’t: the numbers don’t add up.
Here’s what they found.
Nvidia reported $33.4 billion in unpaid bills, up 89% in one year. Customers who bought chips haven’t paid for them yet. The average wait time for payment stretched from 46 days to 53 days. That extra week represents $10.4 billion that may never arrive.
Meanwhile, Nvidia stockpiled $19.8 billion in unsold chips, up 32% in three months. But management claims demand is insane and supply is constrained. Both cannot be true. Either customers aren’t buying or they’re buying without cash.
The cash flow tells the real story. Nvidia generated $14.5 billion in actual cash but reported $19.3 billion in profit. The gap is $4.8 billion. Healthy chip companies like TSMC and AMD convert over 95% of profits to cash. Nvidia converts 75%. That’s distress level.
Here’s where it gets criminal.
Nvidia gave $2 billion to xAI. xAI borrowed $12.5 billion to buy Nvidia chips. Microsoft gave OpenAI $13 billion. OpenAI committed $50 billion to buy Microsoft cloud. Microsoft ordered $100 billion in Nvidia chips for that cloud. Oracle gave OpenAI $300 billion in cloud credits. OpenAI ordered Nvidia chips for Oracle data centers.
The same dollars circle through different companies and get counted as revenue multiple times. Nvidia books sales, but nobody actually pays. The bills age. The inventory piles up. The cash never comes.
AI company CEOs admitted it themselves last week. Airbnb’s CEO called it vibe revenue. OpenAI burns $9.3 billion per year but makes $3.7 billion. That’s a $5.6 billion annual loss. The $157 billion valuation requires $3.1 trillion in future profits that MIT research shows 95% of AI projects will never generate.
Peter Thiel sold $100 million in Nvidia on November 9. SoftBank dumped $5.8 billion on November 11. Michael Burry bought put options betting Nvidia crashes to $140 by March 2026.
Bitcoin, which tracks AI speculation, dropped from $126,000 in October to $89,567 today. That’s a 29% crash. AI startups hold $26.8 billion in Bitcoin as collateral for loans. When Nvidia falls another 40%, those loans default, forcing $23 billion in Bitcoin sales, crashing crypto to $52,000.
The timeline is now certain. February 2026, Nvidia reports fourth quarter and reveals how many bills aged past 60 days. March 2026, credit agencies downgrade. April 2026, the first restatement. The fraud that took 18 months to build unwinds in 90 days.
Fair value for Nvidia: $71 per share. Current price: $186. The math is simple.
This is the fastest moving financial fraud in history because algorithms detected it in real time. Human investors are 90 days behind.
