I'll tell you why I hate our textbook: It puts themes before texts. Rather than distill themes from the text, the themes are imposed upon the text (in often foolish and simplistic ways).

HOLY COW! A BPHS alum donated the total amount, along with @DonorsChoose matching money and fully funded this project! Nice! More books help to keep my classroom library full and fresh.

#filleveryshelf Buying books can be very expensive, that's why DOUBLING your donation can be a critical help. Thanks for considering supporting reading in my classroom. #DonorsChoose #reading #read #books donorschoose.org/project/classr…

@AndrewPeterson Thought you should know that a 9th grade student just came into my room during lunch to yell at me because, even though she enjoyed the series immensely, she cried at the ending of The Warden and the Wolf King. Nice job! So glad to offer my students your books!

If you were building a high school classroom library for all skill levels, what books would be must haves for your shelves?

I just had my #ELD 1 class with 30 high school students, and dozens of hands were in the air asking to read out loud - in English. Give kids the chance and they will work hard, they will practice, they will learn. It was a great moment. Great day.

Went to the Leo Fender Project today, produced by The Electric Company Theater. It was excellent. My wife and I and all my kids enjoyed it. A perfect mix of child-friendly entertainment, history, music, and fun. 5/5 stars. Two thumbs Up! @teachmemrj electriccompanytheatre.org

I hate that @quizlet got rid of the Spelling option. That was such a key tool for my ELD students. Anyone have suggestions for alternatives for practicing spelling? #teacher #eld #el #school #spelling #vocabulary

@efraintovarjr @Sobrato_org @edpolicyinca @CalTog That slide is exactly correct! Newcomer classes are really such a niche class that they don't get much attention despite the fact that EL metrics are always so important to schools. There just isn't a lot of cross-pollination for such teachers/classes.

“It’s almost like [Chinese company Bytedance] recognize[s] that technology’s influencing kids’ development, and they make their domestic version a spinach TikTok, while they ship the opium version to the rest of the world,” says Tristan Harris. cbsn.ws/3E3GGwa

@CoachAWhite @BuenaParkHS Bottom, all the way. Way easier than that tiny little hole that's impossible to make work.

I got ghosted by #EL #ELD students. I understand their lives are often highly transitional; still, it is hard to not get to say goodbye. One day they are here, the next morning they are dropped from my roster. I wish them well.
