Hey, teachers: How many of you had your classes cancelled and spent time proctoring for standardized tests this week? And how much time--and money--are we wasting on prepping for, administering, and taking these tests? What should our policy be on standardized testing?
@mrobmused Not to mention counselors having to coordinate! We definitely need a reduction in testing. Districts use NWEA and other tools. Grades and grad rates theoretically should measure proficiency. All other tests should go back to Saturday with paid employees from the testing companies
@mrobmused I sent almost all my instruments in to get fixed this week because I’m only going to see my kids 2-3 times between this past week and next week.
@mrobmused @LOLGOP Seems like the bubble filled Iowa testing from 50 years ago was working just fine...simple, easy, quick, and cheap!
@mrobmused Well at our school every single teacher at our school proctored PSAT on Wednesday from 8-11. We will do it all over again next Tuesday and Thursday for MSTEP and then next month we do it again for NWEA. So lots of time being wasted on these tests some which don’t even give
@mrobmused As a kid I remember taking the California Achievement Test. Also my wonderful public school teachers properly assessed me throughout the school year!
@mrobmused I’ve yet to hear a coherent argument about why the ACT Work Keys is mandatory for all juniors.
@mrobmused Good teachers are good teachers, they can't control what the legislation is. No policy will affect teachers that care about their students. Let the kids know that often in life, you get limited time in an unfair environment to prove yourself. Get used to it.
